LONDON was the destina tion for a group of singers from the Kibble Valley who performed on stage at the Ro3ral Albert Hall. Students from St Augus
tine's RC High School, Billington, travelled down to the capital for the pre miere of a musical produc tion written by former music teacher at the school, Peter Rose. They joined 1,500 pupils
from primary schools in Kensington and Chelsea for the special World Wildlife Fimd show titled “One Sun, One World”, which teaches about the impact of global warming. Months of hard work by
music teachers Toni Hud son and Matt Howarth finally paid off following a stunning performance on one of the world’s best- known stages. Year 8 pupil, Molly
Dunn, from Langho, made the most of the trip to Lon don and her family stayed there over the weekend to take in some of the sights. Speaking about the per
formance, she said: “It was really good. “We have been rehearsing
for nearly a year and we did choir in school and on Sun days from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. so there was lots of
practice for it." Mr Rose, who retired
from the school a few years ago to raise his family in Fort William, said: "It's been a great opportimity for children from very deprived areas of Kensington and Chelsea. However, because it's with WWF and because St
Augustine’s have always sung the productions first, we made a unanimous deci sion that St Augustine's should be involved. “What's really nice about
this is that this vast number of children are not only get ting the information across of how they can have an impact on every one, but
from a musical point of view they are also being given this wonderful opportunity to sing with one of the world's finest orchestras." They were accompanied
by the English Chamber Orchestra in the splendid surroundings of the Royal Albert Hall and watched over by parents, friends and
past pupils of the school. One Sun, One World was the first concert in a crescendo of 50 performanc es to be held by WWF before 2011 when it will cel ebrate its 50th anniversary. Our picture shows the
scene at the Royal Albert Hall, which included the local singers.

Foxfields, Stonyhm-st, picked up the top prize for the show held at the NEC in Birming ham with four-year-old Hain- ton Charlie Girl. Mr Wilkinson has been delighted with his latest prize, which is by far the most important to him. In 2007, he picked up the top prize and junior champion
winning his class for best filly with Hainton. The year before he had an equally suc cessful time when Hainton picked up the best filly award at the Roj^ Lancashire Show and scooped the reserve champion title at the Hodder Valley Show. Mr Wilkinson said he was
delighted with his latest prize and thanked his team for all their efforts. Mr Wilkinson is pictured

Ciitheroe Advertiser & Times, Thursday, November 5th, 2009 9 Father-of-five carried out racist attack in pub
A SELF-EMPLOYED proj ect manager who launched a racially aggravated attack on another man after drinking heavily at a barbecue has been giveh a suspended prison sen tence.
Blackburn magistrates
heard the two men were sepa rated by the restaurateur at the Coach and Horses, Bolton-
by-Bowland, who was then assaulted by Stephen Mark Pilling. Pilling (48), of Reedley Road, Reedley, Bumiey, plead ed guilty to racially aggravat ed assault on Neville Govender and assaulting Ross Heywood. He was sentenced to 16
weeks in prison suspended for 12 months, ordered to do 120 hours unpaid work and pay

£250 compensation to Mr Govender, £100 to Mr Hey wood and £770 costs. Philippa White (prosecut
ing) said there had been diffi culties between the two men in the past and on the night of the incident Mr Govender was already in the Coach and Horses when Pilling, a father of five, came in.
The defendant started say
ing things, but Mr Govender ignored him. He went outside for a cig^ette but Pilling was already there and Mr Goven der thought better of it and decided to go back into the pub. “As he did he was grabbed
from behind by the neck and taken to the floor and his head
rammed against the door,” said Mrs White. “During the attack he made several racist remarks” Mr Govender tried to defend
himself and the two men were rolling about on the floor when Mr Heywood came out and pulled them apart. He was try ing to restrain Pilling when they both fell backwards into a
plant pot. John Nuttall (defending) said his client was full of remorse. He had initial ly pleaded not guilty mainly because of the racially aggra vated element of the charge. “His wife is Asian and he is not a racist,” said Mr Nuttall. “The language he used makes it racially aggravated, but it was not racially motivated.”
