Big plans for town centre

A MULTI-MILLION pound proposal to breathe new life into Clitheroe is up for discus­


sion. Residents and businesses in


Clitheroe are being asked for their views on ambitious plans for the future economic prosperi­ ty of the town, which include sweeping changes to the town’s

of an eagerly-awaited Clitheroe town centre masterplan, com­ missioned hy Kibble Valley Bor­ ough Council, the Kibble Valley Strategic Partnership and Lan­ cashire County Council. . This reveals a futuristic vision


of how Clitheroe can develop into a vibrant and viable place to live, work, shop and play. Clitheroe estate agent and sur­


veyor Mr Ian Lloyd, who has an active interest in the town centre regeneration project, declared: “Clitheroe town centre is being reborn. Times are changing and Clitheroe must compete and respond to keep existing shop­ pers and visitors and attract new people to the town.” Clitheroe Market is recognised


as a major asset to the town. Under the plans, which are in their initial stages, some of the ideas to ensure the market con­ tinues to thrive, are to transform it into a civic square with park­ ing and improvements. This would include:


• A more compact market'


with central canopy. • New street furniture, seat­


ing and lighting. 9 Car park improvements

9 New cafe. 9 New trees and planting. Meanwhile, another option is develop the market by introduc-


. ing new shops and attractions. The scheme would involve: 9 A relocated market with
