CLITHEROE CC’S Jack Dewhurst helped the English Schools’ Cricket . Association Under 16s side to a tie with England . Under 15s on the hal lowed turf at Lords last week. The game, to celebrate
the 60th anniversary of the ESCA, vvas the first time junior England teams have played at the home of cricket, and, thankfully the weather stayed fine. ■The Clitheroe Royal
Grammar School pupil was presented to England opening batsman Andrew Strauss before the game, and went on to bowl as first change, recording impressive figures of 8-^- 25-2 as the Under 15s managed a score of 195 aU out. In reply. Jack went in
at number seven needing 35 to win off five overs. The very first ball he
faced he struck for six over midwicket, and he went on to score 28 not out.
On the very last ball of the game, the Under 16s
needed two to win, and Jack managed to get bat on ball and sprint across for a single to leave the match drawn. The after-match pre
sentations were conduct ed by England batsman Owais Shah, and in the evening there was a cele bration dinner in the Long Room, where Mark Ramprakash was the guest speaker. Jack was named in the
side after some impressi-ve performances for both Lancashire and the North of England. In the recent Bunbury
festival at Sedbergh School in Cumbria, Jack opened the bowling for the North of England and
took four wickets in the week, with some impres sive opening spells. He didn’t get much
opportunity with the bat, but when his chance came he took it, scoring the fastest 50 of the week off only 45 deliveries, includ ing hitting the biggest six, winch was shown on Sky Sports during the second Test against South Africal He won two trophies
for his efforts, presented by Mr Bunbury himself. Dr David English, at the Festival Dinner. In recent weeks. Jack
has been moved up to Lancashire’s Under 16s team, playing against Cheshire, Yorkshire and Durham in a two-day for mat of the game, and has continued to score runs and take wickets. He has been part of the

Hursl Green ......................................5 Peel Park ............................................0 HURST Green extended their unbeaten start as they comfortably despatched bottom of the league Peel Park, despite missing the front two of Danny Walker and Paul Chippendale. The -visitors only arrived with the bare
affair, with the visitors rarely making it
into Green’s half. The second goal came soon after the
minimum, and this was to backfire as their right back was stretchered off after 25 minutes with a suspected broken ankle. The 10 men applied themselves well as
break as Baker showed quick feet inside the box to slam home his first goal of the season, and 10 minutes later, the marauding Phil Walker linked up well with Baker to lay on a chance for Taylor, whose shot was too powerful for the'- keeper. Three became four midway through
they coped with everything that Green could throw at them, although the home side’s crossing left a lot to be desired. The first goal took a long time in com
the half as Chris Leighton drove home a 20-yard effort following good work from Dewhurst. With the game won. Green made
ing, but came from an unlikely source. An Oily Bolton free kick found the unmarked Bamber to head home from
close range. The second half was a very one-sided
changes with Fordham coming on to mark his debut -with a goal, as he worked himself some space inside the box and finished well. Green’s next fixture is at Read United on Saturday, kick-off 2-15 p.m.

SCOTT Thompson won the Miners Lamp Competition at Clitheroe Golf Club on Saturday, with 40 points. Tony Flanagan shot a gross 72, but
Clitheroe’s perceived scrum advantage was emasculated, when uncontested scrums were ordered, as Fleetwood had no recognised front row replacement after their prop had exited injured. All totally -within the rules, but at the
same time teeth-gnashingly frustrating. A tiring team shipped a couple more
tries toward the end, but battled well, exemplified by Danny Cowgill in the pack. Centres Kieron Keough and Dave
Fairhurst grew into their role as the game progressed, and young Chris Williams had a fine game on the wing, putting in some brilliant try-saving tackles. Man-of-the-match was Ollie McEn-
