Dugdales all set for digital revolution

WITH the Granada TV region set to “go digital” next year, a Clitheroe-based pioneer has become the first company in East Lancashire to have its aerial and satellite installers awarded the coveted Kegistered Digital Installer status. From its .base in Chatburn Road,

dugdales digital installs digital TV sys tems across the North West. With the region’s analogue TV signal due to be turned off in late 2009, anyone without the right digital equipment will see their TV screens go blank. That could mean a new TV or video, a set top box to con vert existing equipment, and maybe an aerial upgrade. David Dugdale, founder and manag

ing director of dugdales digital, was among the first to see the full potential of digital TV transmission and has spent several years building up a very successful regional business, specialising in installing Sky TV and other digital systems. In a fast-changing industry, he is also keen to stay ahead of the game and now his company has become the

first in the area to achieve full Regis tered Digital Installer (RDI) status. The RDI'scheme is designed to set

and maintain professional standards and enhance the credibility of the indus try in the eyes of the general public and corporate customers for the digital switchover. RDI status has been grant ed after successful completion of the NVQ Level 2 in Electrical and Electron ic Servicing from Preston College. Passing the NVQ was the final step in

achieving all the criteria set by the RDI Licensing Body and means dugdales is now entitled to use the RDI logo. . David Dugdale commented: “The

RDI logo means the consumer can be assured they are choosing an installer th a t meets a standard. Digital

‘switchover can be quite daunting and it is important that the consumer is pro tected.” Our picture shows David Dugdale

receiving the NVQ from Lee Harling, of Preston College, and the successful dug dales installers, (s)

YUNDAI’S 130 i- Blue is a green spe cial that isn’t really

fits longer gear ratios to the standard 130 CRDi. The good news it that the i-Blue is priced at the same level as the standard car but can deliver real cost savings through its lower emissions

'and improved fuel economy. The 1.6-litre CRDi en^ne

in the i-BIue is a common-rail injection unit.with 114bhp. There’s torque of 255Nm between l,900rpm a n d '

2,500rpm which gives the 130 a hefty pull through the mid range. Spark up the engine and you’ll be pleasantly sur prised a t its lack of diesel c la tte r a t idle and on the move i t stays relatively refined. The power plant is available in the standard 130 in exactly the same guise but in the i-Blue model, i t ’s mated to a longer ratio gear box. This allows the engine to work less hard to a tta in a given speed, improving econ

omy and emissions as a con sequence. The standard 1301.6 CRDi

can return a very creditable 60.1mpg with C02 emissions of 125g/to. With its longer gear ratios, the i-Blue man ages to deliver 119g/km which puts it under the all important cut-off point for a

. number of emissions-based taxation schemes. This drop has been achieved with the sole addition of a new gear box which does beg the ques tion: how low could Hyundai

, go with a full set of efficiency modifications?
