great healer, But I u^onder, HOw can that be? Because two years have passed, Since God up above, In His wisdom, took you from me.

Yet my broken heart is still broken, I still cry when I'm all on my own, Our house and my life stillfeel empty, In a crowd, I still feel alone.

/ sometimes still smell yourfragrance, I think Ihear you call my name, In the comer of my eye, I still see you, But alas, it's just in my brain.

All my love, Andrew XXX.

Yes, two years have passed, Since you drew your last breath, And your body was forced to depart, But the real Mavis will live on and on. For eternity, here in my heart.

RELATIVES and friends have paid tribute to a “kind and caring” woman with Royal household con nections who died after a three-car crash in the Rib ble Valley. Mrs Elizabeth Jephson

(79), pictured, who lived in Green Park Court, off Whiteacre Lane, Barrow, died when a Rover 25 she was driving towards Clitheroe was involved in a head-on col lision with a black Mercedes CDi travelling in the opposite direction, towards Great Har wood. Emergency services were'

called, but Mrs Jephson, known as Betty to her many friends, sustained serious in juries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passengers in the Mer cedes received minor injuries as did the driver of a Volvo S40, which also was in colli sion with the Mercedes. The accident happened

near Springwood picnic site at about 5-30 p.m. on Wednesday January 2nd, on the A671 Accrington Road at Whalley. Mrs Jephson’s tragic death

has shocked and saddened many people, especially the close-knit community of Bar- row. Mrs Carole Ingham, one of the directors at Green Park Court, has spoken of the neighbours’ deep sorrow' at losing such a “wonderful and well-loved person”. “Betty was quiet, gentle

and very kind,” she said. “Everyone is absolutely dis traught by her death. She was a fit and active person and was always helping others. “She was one of the direc

Commander, Mr Chris Jeph son and enjoyed getting to know his family, including his sons Patrick, a former private secretary to Princess Diana, and Michael, who is the catering manager at Buck ingham Palace. A few years later the cou

ple moved to Hampshire. Mrs Jephson returned to East Lancashire nine years ago after she was widowed and moved into Green Park Court, where she quickly be came a popular figure. She had recently returned

home after spending Christ mas with her stepdaughter, Mrs Pat Metcalfe, in Linton, near Grassington, who said: “The news of her death is a big shock. “She was the most kind and

friendly person. She was well loved by everyone. She was a true Christian, a well-known member of the congregation a t Whalley Parish Church and a member of Whalley Conservative Club. “Although she had no chil

dren of her own, she was a very nice, gentle and family- orientated person.” Mrs Jephson’s brother,

Desmond Brierley, of Locker Avenue, Burnley, echoed the words of Mrs Metcalfe and said the news of her death was a shock. Police are continuing to

urge anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. Sgt Pete Sculpher said:

“We are particularly inter ested to contact a doctor who spoke to the ambulance serv ice at the scene and left be fore police attendance and I urge him to come forward. “I urge anyone who wit

nessed the accident, or saw' any of the cars involved be fore the collision, to get in touch and contact police on 0845 1253545.” • An inquest has been

opened into the death of Mrs Jephson. The inquest heard that police inquiries are con tinuing to determine whether any offence has been commit ted. No charges had been brought against the other motorist. A post mortem ex amination showed that Mrs Jephson died of neck, chest and leg injuries.
