DANCE teacher and examiner, Gladys Sut cliffe, celebrated her 60 th birthday in famous company when she
;shared the stage at High Wycombe’s Swan ■Theatre with sporting heroes Trevor Brooking
and Lawrence Dallaglio. However, while th ey
received honorary degrees for their services to sport and to Buckinghamshire New University, Mrs Sut cliffe, of Clitheroe, spent- two years combining her teaching and examining commitments with d is tance learning in the Fac u lty of Enterprise and Innovation, to achieve first-class honours in her BA course in Professional Studies. Already a senior mem
ber of the International Dance Teachers’ A^ocia- tion with fellowships in all theatre subjects, Mrs Sut
cliffe’s new award illus trates how learning is now a life-long process, with opportunities for people of all ages to extend their knowledge and profession al qualifications. She says: “Though com
bining family and work commitments with extend ed study of material often not directly related to my previous work experience proved very demanding, achieving first-class hon ours made all the travels ling and research worth while. : “
It.aiso proves that it is

.AROUND 100 people took
. part in this year’s Amelia Cup 10k run raising approximately £3,000 for Csratic Fibrosis suf ferers. The event is inspired by
seven-year-old Amelia Dickin son, of Whalley, who despite suffering ■with the condition, completed the whole route by both w a lto g and jogging. She finally crossed the finishing line to a round of applause
• and cheers from fellow com petitors and spectators. Amelia’s sister, nihe-year-
