Amazing response to music appeal
. 'VALLEY 'VOICES conductor Glen Pate is amazed a t the response to his appeal for copies of songs, hymn tunes and choral pieces associated with the Ribble 'Valley. Calls Jiave flooded into his
'Whalley home since his letter in the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times. He said: “I’ve been offered
music from all over the area - and I've had calls from places like the Isle of Man.
.,
“I stiU have to -visit several people who offered sheet
; music, but I -will get around to it soon. I t’s going to give me a . tremendous arranging and editing job over the next few months.” • One of the gems imearthed
A STEREO, worth £100, was stolen from a 'VW Polo parked in St Peter’s Close, Clayton-/
is a hymn tune, “Chatbum”, which was written in 1911 by Albert E. Kirkham to “Abide with me” and dedicated to the men’s Bible class at Chatburn Parish Church. Said Glen: “I t ’s a beautiful
ly crafted tune and it proba bly hasn't been sung for years. I t would be wonderful to revive the tune and record it as part of the area's musical treasures.” The plan is for 'Valley Voic
es to record most of the music on CD next year with the col laboration of one of the local bands.
