Go ahead for a parking ban a.f‘dan'ger’junction
60
PLANS to stop 'vehicles park ing at a Read'junction have been given the go-ahead, despite an objection from'res- idents. The proposal, to issue a
Traffic Regulation Order at the junction of Victoria Lodge and Whalley Road, was backed at a meeting of Ribble Valley Lancashire Local. Lancashire County Coun
cil’s Enidronment Directorate advertised th e ^order in; response to reports that vehi cles parked throughout the
day oniVictoria.Lodge a n d , ■Whalley Road were obstruct-
■ ing the safe movement of traf fic and pedestrians... During the consultation; period one letter of objection
• had been received from a local resident who requested an extension to the prohibition of waiting across nearby residen tial driveways, but the meet ing was told that the blocking ■ of access was a police matter. The Traffic Regulation Order will prohibit vehicles
; from waiting at the junction at any time.

Saintly shot is a winner for David
GUEST judge Mr David Marsh had a tough time choosing the 'winners of Rib- blesdale Camera Club’s sec ond -winter competition. A past-president of the
Lancashire and Cheshire Pho tographic Union, Mr Marsh is himself a multiple gold medal winner in international competitions. In total there were 62 entries in three class es.
In the slides section, 'new
member Richard Fisher took first, second, third and fifth places. His -winning shot was of “Saint Richard’!, a statue at Chichester Cathedral, treated imaginatively in black-and-white in the con text of its surrounding build ings, which date from several- periods. In second place, and pic
tured right, was Richard’s slide entitled .“Stained Glass”. What made this picture spe cial, remarked the judge, was the image projected in sun light alongside the window itself. Richard’s third place was gained for “The Beauty of Rust”, a close-up of the
subject.'. Ken Geddes was placed fourth -with “Crossing. Point”. ' In the prints section, first
was ‘‘Wren”, by Stephen Robinson, a picture of this- fast-moving and elusive bird in its natural habitat. In sec ond place was Les Marklew’s ' “Vauban and His Bricks”, a simple shot of a portrait of the 17th century French mili
tary engineer, next to brick work of one of his many forts.
' In third place was Sue Mars- den’s “The Squeeze”, a humorous picture of piglets with their heads sticking out of the gate of their pen. Ray mond Greenwood’s “Bluebells at Spring Wood’! was fourth. The final class was for digi tal projections, in which
.Helen Fletcher’s ’’Will You Keep Still?” - a picture of a mother zebra and her young -
was another superb nature
picture. The judge said that the image was so good that he : gave it first and suggested that it be submitted to the Southport International Exhibition. Les Marklew again reieeived
a second place, this time for “Sea, Spray and Sky”. Third; was Sue Marsden -with “Neck and Crop”; Jeff Cowling was fourth with “ Climbing the Dunes”. \
a Happy IMew Year Woman’s shoplifting trip
A SHOPLIFTING trip to .Clitheroe^ resulted in a court ■appearance for a 46ryear-old .’Burnley woman;;, ’ Blackburn magistrates heard that Tracy Sandra Lyon offered a friend £10 for petrol to take her shopping and he; unwittingly drove her home, -with her haul of goods worth £220 from Tesco.
’ : Lyon,' of; Oxford Road; Burnley-pleaded gu ilty to
on bail for the preparation of pre-sentence reports. Pat Bramley (prosecuting): said Lyon told police sh e - . intended to' sell the goods to
= raise money to pay for a 21st. . birthday party for her son. But - Mark . Williams ' (defending) said the truth of.
:: the matter was that Lyon was ;; a reforming drug addict and ■ the offence represented a . ‘blip”,in what had otherwise
stealing shopping, dncluding - been her good progress. _ stpks, washing powder,'crisps > He said Lyon had been iden- and c6ffee.';She. w^'remanded , tified from CCTV footage.;. -
