County’s former Higlj Sheriff dies at 87

A FORMER High Sheriff and Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mr C h ris to pher Parker (87) died at Browshplme Hall on Tues

day. Mr.Parker will be remem

bered in the farming commu nity for his ideas and motiva tion behind the move of Clitheroe Action Mart from the town centre to Lincoln Way. Approached by the farm

directors in the mid-1980s, he became a major shareholder of the company, raised addi tional finance and managed the construction of the new auction mart. As chairman, he gently

'steered the company through troubled times of BSE and Foot and Mouth crisis while encouraging diversification into car boot sales, a unique and hugely popular fur ‘n’ feather on Wednesdays, and, more recently, Silverwood’s antiques auctions. However the restoration of

Tractors trail for charity

AROUND 45 vintage and classic tractors and their owners, iiicluding several from the Ribble Valley, took part in a charity run. They gathered at West

Marton, between Gisbum and Skipton, for the start of the tractor run organ ised by Craven farmers and local tractor enthusi asts on Sunday. Drivers were rewarded

with a spectacular and varied route as they meandered through Craiven villages from West.Marton to Malham, returning via Bordley and Gargrave. . Spectators along the

route enjoyed the sights and sounds of some rare tractors, ranging from a Silver Jubilee Ford to a 1960s Fordson Super Major.

. The event also raised

£662 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Our picture shows the
