state that it is tempting to imagine that one only has to buy an apartment to guar antee a loss but I wonder if anything is ever quite that simple. Here’s an example of what I mean. Suppose that some lunatic were to build
a block of luxury apartments in the Cathe dral Close of a northern city. Of course, city centre living is not everybody’s cup of tea, but suppose that the block had its own underground car park and security and its own exclusive swimming poo!, sauna, Jacuzzi and gymnasium; an oasis of peace, prestige and prosperity, a stone’s throw from the Cathedral, railway station, the

state of the market, one could buy a per fectly lovely little apartment there for less than £90,000. Could one possibly lose money on such a purchase? Or, to put it another way, how could one avoid a profit, on a two or three year view? The other day, Margo Grimshaw, one of
the most colourful characters that Black- bum has ever produced, took me round her development at Cathedral Court, Black- bum. Margo loves Blackburn and wants the very best for it. To her mind, there is no reason at all that Blackburn should not have the sort of luxury that cities like Lon don enjoy. If a young lawyer in London can roll out

FOR the ninth year in succession in 1958 there were no cases of diphtheria report ed in the Clitheroe Rural District. • Clitheroe Rural District Council

• Well-known to motorists all over East Lancashire as an AA patrolman,

CLITHEROE licensing justices turned down an application for a drinks licence at the town’s newest sports club. But the owner of J. R. Snooker Club at the old Palladium, was to appeal. • Villagers at Pendleton feared that
there would have to be a fatal accident before something was done to light the dangerous junction, which led to the hamlet from Clitheroe - Whalley bypass. The junction had now been lit. . • Nine Ribble Valley villages entered this year’s Best Kept Village Competi tion.
