Feast of activities for all ages^ iRGdClGTS makes Grand a family affair

by the Editor

MORE than 2,000 people of all ages streamed into the new- look Grand on Saturday. From 10 a.m. onwards there was

a feast of activities, with Bizi Lizi’s a r t workshops attracting more than 500 youngsters who created 600 craft items. The beginners’ dance workshops

proved popular with the new-found talents displayed on stage in the

afternoon’s variety show alongside those exhibited by enthusiastic pupils from the Valley’s schools. Pendle Primary was just one

taking p ar t and told us: “The launch of the Grand in Clitheroe was a proud occasion for excited children to display their new-found talents and confidence. “Through the ‘MySkillz’ pro

gramme, in conjunction with Oasis and Connexions, 15 children aged eight to 11 years gained an under standing of the skills and talents

needed to put on musical theatre. The project combined singing and dancing with the technical aspects of theatre - lighting and sound. “The emphasis which under

pinned all of this was on collabora tive work and a positive approach. All the children completed the course with a certificate, a CD and a strong sense of their achieve ment. “They overcame their fears in

performing before an audience and encountered the difficulties of

singing and dancing at the same time; which, they all agreed, was harder than they had imagined! “The project gave them time to

explore difficult issues of resolving differences, working together, gain ing tru s t and persevering to

achieve a goal. “The children, their families and

Pendle School feel very proud to have had the opportunity to take part in the special launch weekend and with the Grand every success in becoming a major arts venue”.

In the evening, local band The

Ragamuffins joined The 99s along side Bluebird Kid Clark and on Sunday it was house full again tor a Christian worship event with singer/songwriter Ben Cantelon and Oasis founder Steve Chalke who joined in all the weekend’s cel ebrations. And, due to demand, a limited

number of tickets for Tom Baxter on Saturday will be available from the cafe, currently open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WE are offering readers the chance to win one of 10 pairs of tickets to this year’s Spring Flower Show at the Great York shire Showground at Harrogate. Garden design has seen a number of trends

come and go throughout the last decade, but a garden based around fabulous plants will always look good and will give pleasure for years to come. More than 100 horticultural nurseries will be

exhibiting in the two flower halls at the show. They will have a huge variety of plants, rang ing from herbaceous perennials and alpines to bonsai, ferns and grasses. Outside you will find climbing plants and

bulbs, as well as specimen trees and shrubs. Nine new nurseries, including a couple of

interesting ones from overseas, will be exhibit ing at the show this year. Aldo Airplants, of Belgium, will be bringing over a selection of tillandsia. These are 'perfect houseplants for steamy areas such as bathrooms, as they gath er moisture and nutrients from the air, so do not
