THE club’s recent weekend meet was at the Gian Dena climbing hut in the Ogwen valley near Capcl Curig (s)

MEMBERS are pictured at Howgills during a recent outing (s) Mountaineers sample all weather variations!

; ON Easter Sunday 11 members of ; Clitheroe Mountaineering Club met ' at Cautley near Sedbergh. I Trudging through deep, soft snow, ; the party climbed the path border- i ing the Cautley Spout waterfalls to reach the summit of The Calf. Members then headed south over

Bram Rigg Top to Calders, blasted by spindrift from the many deep

:• snowdrifts. And continuing south the group

' traversed the tops of Arant Haw and Winder before descending steeply ; into Sedbergh.

0 Saturday’s activities were

severely limited by storm-force winds and torrential rain. One group headed to Aber where a

track through the nature reserve was taken to view the spectacular Rhaeadr Falls, then to ascend the minor peak of Bera Mawr, which proved to be no pushover. Scrambling up rocks to reach the

summit, members raised their heads just above the highest point before retreating back to the hut’s drying room. After hot showers and changes of

clothes, members were able to enjoy a communal Italian meal with starters prepared by Denise and Steve Andrews, a main course cooked by the meal co-ordinators Jane Pyzniuk and Dave Grosvenor, and an array of desserts contributed by various others, including a birth day cake for Ellen Derby. Committee member, Frank Tay

lor, gave an appreciative vote of thanks on behalf of all the guests. On Sunday the weather improved,

tempting members to venture high er.

The main objective for various

groups was the north ridge of Try- fan, providing an entertaining rock scramble to the summit blocks of Adam and Eve. After descending south another

scramble up Bristly Ridge led to the summit plateau of Glyder Fach where the much-photographed perch of the Cantilever was located. Returning to the pass of Bwlch Try- fan, members made their way back to the hut via Tryfan’s Heather Ter race. O The club’s next indoor meeting

will be held at Clitheroe Cricket Club on Thursday, April 17th, start ing at 8 p.m. Visiting speaker, Geoff Lyons, will give an illustrated lecture about the West Lancashire Scout Group 2007 expedition to scale unclimbed peaks in Greenland. The club’s next outdoor meet will

be a visit to the Derbyshire Edges for walking and rock climbing on Sunday, April 20th, leaving the council offices car park at 8 a.m. 0 General inquiries about the club

and its activities can be made to Nick Millward on 01200 441346.
