‘Insurance may be invalid’ warning

INSURANCE cover pro vided by a Clitheroe-based company could be invalid, according to the Financial Services Authority. It is warning that some poli

cies provided by Orion Direct, which traded from offices at Bank House, King Street, Clitheroe, might be worthless. This means that the policy holder could be driving with out insurance - a criminal offence. Insolvency proceedings were

launched against Orion earlier this month. Orion Direct Ltd and its sister company, Pep percorn pic, no longer conduct general insurance business or any activity regulated by the FSA, the watchdog body of the financial services industry. A statement from the FSA

reads: “We have reason to believe that, in some instances, customer premiums for insur ance cover paid to Orion Direct and Peppercorn may not have been passed on to the

insurer. Any customer in this position may not have valid insurance cover in place.” Any customers who took

out insurance through the fol lowing firms could be affected: Orion Direct Ltd; Peppercorn pic; Taximan Ltd: Haulage- Man Ltd. Or any of the firms doing business under the fol lowing trading names: Clubs Direct; Fleetforce; Restaurant; Selector; Clickthepepper; Instructorcover; Ignition Insurance: Just for Pubs; Trucking Insurance UK; Courier Insurance; Cabman Ltd. Anyone in any doubt as to

whether they have valid insur ance cover should contact Asher Miller, of David Rubin's and Partners, the appointed administrators of Orion Direct and Peppercorn. He can be contacted on 020 8343 5900 or by fax on 020 8446 2994.Cus- tomers can also contact the FSA Consumer Helpline by telephone on 0845 6061234>

CAB is closed on Wednesdays

ON page 10 of this month’s edition of the Valley magazine it stated that the Citizens Advice Bureau’s Clitheroe branch was open for telephone advice on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We have been told that the information, which appears on Lancashire County Council’s Library and Infor mation Service website, is incorrect. The bureau is now closed all day on Wednesday.

Man killed

in crash AN inquest has been opened into the death of a father-of-four killed in a three-car crash on the A59. Mr Sameer

Vohra (34), of Blackburn, was killed when his BMW veered across the carriage way and collided with a Daf HGV, on the A59 at Sam- lesbury. The crash occur

red at around 1-20 p.m. last Thursday and a section of the road was closed at the Swallow Hotel until after 6 p.m. as accident investiga tors remained on the scene. The female pas

senger in the BMW was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital with seri ous hut not life- threatening injur- ies. A Peugeot peo ple carrier ran into the hack of the BMW and three people were treated for minor injuries. Coroner Mr

Michael Singleton has adjourned the inquest. Mr Voh- . ra’s funeral took place at Pleasing- ton on Saturday.
