JEAN BAPTISTE-POQUELIN (22), also known as Moliere, is not yet the writer that his tory recognises as the father and true master of comic satire, author of “The Misanthrope” and “Tartuffe” and a dramatist to rank alongside Shakespeare and Sophocles. Far from it. He is, in fact, a failed actor. His Illustrious Theatre Troupe, founded the

unearthed no trace of him before his reappear ance, several months later, when his troupe begins touring the provinces - a tour that will last for 13 years, and culminate in Moliere's triumphant return to Paris in 1658. But what happened to Moliere during these

mysterious lost months? The highly entertaining (and highly specula

tive) answer to this question unravels as a lushly romantic and bitingly comedic tale of secrets, for bidden love, mistaken identity and the lure of the stage (much like a play by the master himself)! Boasting an extraordinary cast sumptuous

production values and a witty and sophisticated script this period drama reveals the tantalizing mystery behind the birth of France's greatest dramatist.

Laugh a minute!

“WHO’S Laughing” occupied Clitheroe and District Probus Club members at their latest meeting. Mr Alan Amos was the speaker who

intrigued the club with his examina tion of humour interspersed with hilarious examples. Quoting from masters of the craft,

THERE will be free Cobra beer every Sunday at Ribble Valley Film Club from this weekend. The company has agreed to sponsor the club’s autumn

season for the third consecutive year. The new season runs through to the end of May 2008. The club’s first screening is the acclaimed Australian

mystery/thriller “Jindabyne,” (15), from director Ray Lawrence who brought the club the haunting “Lantana” featured at its Australian Film Festival in 2003. Next up is “10 Canoes,” (15), also from Australia and

the first in an Aboriginal language. This is described “as a hoot” and is a remarkable film

depicting Aboriginal life much like ours (but with slightly more wives and mostly on water much like parts of this country most recently). Both films are “must sees’” and come with the added

bonus of cabaret-style seating and free Cobra beer until it runs out, which is usually just before Christmas! Bruce Dowles

Partnership's future debate

A PUBLIC meeting will be held by Clitheroe the Future Partnership on Wednesday at the St Mary’s Centre, Church Brow, Clitheroe. Over the past three years, the partnership has

invested in many projects in Clitheroe and the sur rounding villages with financial support from the North West Regional Development Agency. This funding comes to an end in March 2008 and, if

the partnership is to continue its work, it is vital to know whether the community supports what has been

achieved. If you cannot make the meeting, but still have a view
