A WOMAN driver was killed in an acci dent at the notorious Pendle Road junc tion of the A59 on Tuesday night. Despite the efforts of witnesses who tried to

elling along the A59 towards Gisburn was involved in a collision with a blue Mazda 323 which had come out of Pendle Road and was believed to be turning right. The four occupants of the Peugeot - two
women, a man and a little girl - were taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital with non-life- threatening injuries. The A59 was closed for four hours for acci
dent investigation work. Police are appealing for anyone with infor

paigned for years to have a roundabout built on the A59 at the point where Sabden Road and Pendle Road converge on the carriageway

manent safety measures a t the junction, describing them as “not good enough”. Following Tuesday’s crash, he said: “My
sympathy goes out to all the families whose relatives were involved in this accident. “This crash is more than yet another statis tic and it is more than another accident in
which someone has lost their life. Measures that will improve the safety of the A59 need to be introduced as soon as possible. “Lack of money is no excuse as large sums
of money have been raised by speed cameras all across Lancashire. “The time has come for the police and the
local authority to act together on this notori ous danger area.”
