The trip starts follow ing the 10 a.m. mass, with a conducted tour of Samlesbury Old Hall and a sand wich lunch, returning for 3 p.m.

Bulbs planted by the children at the front of the school and in the environmental area have done well and been much admired and the school garden has been prepared for planting. Great interest has been shown in a family of ducklings nesting outside Mrs Under wood’s class.

The after school serv ice is held in the parish church every Thursday at 3-45 p.m., ending no later than 4-15 p.m. and followed by refresh ments.

dance and walking

MEMBERS of the Clitheroe and District Caledonian Society, together with friends and families, enjoyed a weekend away at the Cumbria Grand Hotel, Grange-over- Sands. After dinner on th e Friday evening,

there was a varied programme of Scottish country dancing in the ballroom. S a tu rd ay dawned w ith reasonable

weather and three walks were offered. The first was an unaccompanied five-mile stroll along the promenade. Tamsin and Richard Champion led a

party of 25 up towards Birkrigg Common on to the southern fells and then descend ing to join the Cumbrian Coastal Way for the return, a distance of about seven miles. Another walk was a little more strenu

ous and a party of seven led by Malcolm Douglas went round and up Whitbarrow

Anyone fancy a game of rounders?

Hodder Valley farmers out there \Hth suit able flat grazing land for us to play on, please let me know.” The team was also delighted and grate

approaching, it was, says Julie, a great start to the first season to get out into the fresh air and meet up with new and exist ing ladies, and a good laugh was had by

Local Elections, May 3

'We are not for names, nor men, nor titles of Government, nor are we for this party nor against another... hut we are for justice and mercy and truth and peace and true freedom.' (Edward Burrough, Quaker 1659)

Quakers seek to serve that of God which is in everyone and are deeply committed to equality and social justice. It is part of the Quaker way of life that each Friend should play a part in the life of the wider social and political community outside the Religious Society of Friends. Friends will not, therefore, give support to any political party which is divisive and promotes prejudice and inequality. We vigorously oppose extremist groups which exploit distrust and hatred of any section of society in order to gain and hold power.

We believe that it is vital that everyone of good will should fulfil their rights and responsibilities in elections, using their vote in favour of candidates and parties which will treat all people as being of equal value, status and having equal rights.

May we all, of all faiths and none, rejoice in the diversity of the society in which we all share and work towards understanding, equality and freedom - including freedom from the fear of others.
