clutch of eggs EXCITED young pupils at Pendle Pri mary School, Clitheroe, have had an extra spring in their step en-route to school. For the Year 1 reception class has been
keeping a close eye on seven eggs in an incubator. The eggs from a local family friend of
the pupils’ teacher have been incubated in school. Heps’ eggs take 21 days to incubate and
the children turned them each day. The children knew when the eggs had
been turned correctly as there was a cross on one side and a circle on another to help them. A rota was drawn up by their two teachers and was very diligently followed each day. Last Thursday morning, the youngsters
discovered seven newly-hatched chicks. With ownership comes responsibility,
said headteacher Mrs Margaret Carring ton, and they all understand that the young chicks must be returned to the farmer so that they can be brought up in a suitable environment, (s)
