Although the days are longer

now, the brightly-coloured jackets are a welcome addition to road safety and will really come into their own in the winter months. They were donated by the Bibby

Line Group as part of its 200th anniversary celebrations, which have a nationwide aim of raising £200,000 for charity and building links with local communities through a number of voluntary work initiatives. Locally Bibby Distribution, which has a contract with Ultraframe in Clitheroe, has picked two ideas aimed at improv ing contact with the community and stressing the vital road safety message. The first was to donate the 40 high-visibility waistcoats and the

Farmers in mind

A FREE farm walk designed to give local farmers an insight into “Environmental Stewardship” will be held in Gisburn on Tuesday, May 22nd. The event takes place on a 197-hectare

farm which supports a pedigree herd of 150 Aberdeen Angus suckler cows. The farm is coming to the end of a Countryside Stew ardship Scheme and has recently entered into Entry Level Stewardship (ELS). The farm walk is aimed at farmers who

already have an Entry Level Stewardship (ELS) agreement in place or are looking to make an application. It will give further insight into the various management options available and allow farmers the opportunity to discuss and share ELS experiences with other farmers in the region. Launched by Defra in 2005, Environ

mental Stewardship enables farmers in England to secure regular payments for undertaking simple environmental protec tion and enhancement work on their land. More than 3,200 farmers in the North West have already signed up to. Environmental Stewardship and almost 292,000 hectares of land in this region are under agreement. Numbers are limited, so farmers should

reserve a place in advance by e-mailing: conservation@adas.co.uk with details of your name, full postal address and holding number. Alternatively, telephone the event booking line on 01954 268301.

Bibby Distribution depot has already raised over £500 from a duck race on the Ribble and hope to raise a further £1,500 from two events in the summer.
