FOUR good causes benefited from a Masonic ball. Clitheroe’s four Freemason lodges joined forces

for the event held at the Mytton Fold Hotel, in Langho. A donation of £1,500 from Barclays Bank

helped boost proceeds from the night. As a result, event organisers will be able to give additional handouts to each of the good causes they chose to support. The chosen causes are the Pendleside Hospice,

THE wedding ceremony of Elizabeth Clare Austen and James Robert Hindle was conducted by the bride’s father. The Rev. G. Austen married the couple

HINDLE- AUSTEN

at All Hallows Church in Mitton. Following the ceremony, a reception was

held at the Inn at Whitewell and the new lyweds enjoyed a honeymoon on Italy’s Amalfi Coast. The bride, a doctor, is the daughter of

the Rev. and Mrs G. Austen, of Lin colnshire. Her bridegroom, a dental surgeon and

keen rock climber, is the son of Mr and Mrs J. Hindle, of Barrow. Given away by her brother, Mr James

Francis Austen, the bride wore an empire- line gown of pure silk overlaid with Chan tilly lace in ivory. She carried a traditional bouquet of peonies, lily of the valley, freesia and white roses. The bride’s younger sister, Anna

Bernadette Austen, was the bridesmaid. She wore a pale green silk dress and carried a bouquet similar to the bride’s. Best man was the bridegroom’s brother,

Mr John Hindle, and his friends acted as the groomsmen. On return from honeymoon, the couple

will continue to live in Leeds. v.. ai„„ r rw owl*

Blues and all that jazz!

PLANS for the formation of a new Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues Club are moving

ahead. Enthusiasts attending a pre

liminary meeting were keen to push ahead with forming the club and organising gigs and other events. They were also entertained by experienced jazz pianist Eric Ainsworth, who lives in Clitheroe and gave his full support to the new venture.

Organiser Geoff Jackson

commented: “It was also great to meet a range of people at the meeting interested in promot ing jazz music - especially sev eral members of the meeting who are musicians. This will be a great bonus to the develop ment of a Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues Club.” The dub is now signing up

new members, with the annual membership fee set at £10 per

person or £15 for couples/fami- lies. Anyone interested in join ing should telephone member ship secretary Tony Barnes on 01200 427162. The new club is also busy

planning its first gig, to be held at the St Mary’s Centre, Clitheroe, on Saturday, June 23rd, from 8 p.m. It will feature The John Hargreaves Quintet, plus Harold Salisbury & Pinto Beans. Look out for posters or

watch these columns for details of ticket prices and availability. A second gig is planned for the end of July and more news of the fledgling club can be gleaned from listening to the jazz programme broadcast on Ribble Valley Radio from 8 to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays. The station is currently broadcast ing on the internet and can be heard by logging onto www.rib- blevalleyradio.org.uk

Charity cheque

ONE local good cause has helped another. Clitheroe Lions has donated

£500 for the Clitheroe branch of the Friends of Chernobyl’s Children. It is not the first time the

organisation has supported this particular charity. Our photograph shows
