VILLAGERS in Ribchester are busy putting the finish ing touches to their 47th annual field day which takes place this Saturday. They are looking forward to
the fun-filled parade of floats, bands and performers that will make two “laps” of the village from 1-30 p.m. before specta tors and parade participants take to the “rec” for the entry of the Field Day Queen, Bethany Kelly, and the start of the day’s festivities. Field Day promises to be
action-packed, with entertain ment for all ages including a display by the Longridge gym nastics team, face painting, morris dancers, a demonstra tion by Ribchester Ju-Jitsu
Club and a strong list of mar quee competitions, including one to find the “Most Stunning Teddy Bear.” Barn Owl Bill will also be
there with his collection of birds of prey. On Sunday from 2 p.m. there
is the annual tea party for vil lagers, with music provided by pianist Nigel Spooner while the ever popular Mr Jolly will entertain the children. Field Day chairman Gill
Turner said: “I ’m sure every one will find something to enjoy - and as usual we’ll be collecting hard in order to finance next year’s Field Day. Please give generously so that we can make Field Day 2008 even bigger and better!”
‘Quality of Life Day’
NOISY neighbours and anti social behaviour, graffiti and fly tipping, litter dropping and dog fouling are some of the issues to be highlighted at a “Quality of Life Day” at Clitheroe Market on Saturday. The event, from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m., will feature displays from Ribble Valley Borough Coun cil, the Ribble Valley Crime and Disorder Reduction Part nership, the Lancashire Coun ty Council Safer Travel Unit, the Lancashire Youth and Community Service, Lan cashire Constabulary and Rib ble Valley Homes. The borough council’s quali-
ty-of-life officer, John Barber, said: “There is no doubt that Ribble Valley is one of the safest and most pleasant places in the country to live, but this event will give residents the opportunity to meet the agen cies that help keep it that way, as well as outline their quality of life. “We want people to come to
us and talk about the issues that concern them. We are here to listen and look forward to hearing their views.” The event will also feature
entertainment from a Peruvian panpipe player and everyone is welcome.
