CIVIC dignitaries and honorary guests gathered on Tuesday for the annual “Mayor Making” cer emony. Coun. David Berryman was elected as the new Town Mayor and his wife. Mane, as Mayoress,
succeeding Coun. Allan Knox and his wife. Sue. The toast to the Mayor was proposed by Coun.
Mary Robinson who praised his dedication to duty and said she believed the couple would be great representatives for the town.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Coun. Alan for the post, Coun. Ruth Hargreaves paid tribute Tearing who seconded the proposal.

A CARE worker accused of stealing thousands of pounds from people with learning dis- abilities has appeared in court. Tracey Ann Edmondson
(32), who said she was of no fixed address, but formerly
lived at Moor Lane, Clitheroe, was remanded on bail by Blackburn magistrates. She IS charged with stealing
from residents of Mowbray Lodge in Blackburn, a home for people with learning dis abilities where she formerly
worked. Specifically she is accused of stealing £8,449 from Richard Perry, £7,304 from Peter Billiard, £5,000 from Bernard Coupe, £5,000 from Cohn Ratcliffe, and £5,000 and £370 from other accounts.
® RESIDENTS are invited to two meetings next week to air their views about the proposed £100m. racecourse. The meetings will be held at 7 p.m. next Wednesday and Friday, at Read Primary School, Straits Lane, Read. They are open to everyoneand no tickets are required. Representatives behind the project will be at the meetings.

has taken up the role of head cheerleading coach and will oversee the recruitment and development of the new cheer leading squads. She is looking to assemble a team of around 100 girls, who will perform on matchdays from the start of next season. Kathy, from Accrington, has
coached dancing across East Lancashire for the past 15 years and developed an interest in cheerleading around 10 years ago. She coaches about 150 girls in dance and cheerleading across the area, but auditions for the new Blackburn Rovers cheerleading squads are open
to all-comers, not just Kathy’s pupils. Any girls aged 10 upwards with experience in dance, gymnastics or cheer leading IS welcome to try out for the new squads. Kathy commented; “This is
the opportunity of a lifetime. My girls do competitions and local events, but cheering at football matches is what they strive to achieve.” Try-outs will be held at the
Blackburn Rovers Indoor Cen tre - the club’s Community Department building, which backs directly on to the Ewood Park car park - on Sunday, May 20th.
