9 A DECISION to drop an investigation into BAE Systems has been described as “an early Christmas p resen t” by MP Nigel Evans. The Valley’s MP applauded the decision taken by the Serious Fraud Office. Said Mr Evans: “This is good news for the workers at BAE

Samlesbury and Wharton, who are now secure in their jobs, and also for the country. It was not in the national interest to pursue this investigation and would only hurt oiir specialist manu facturing jobs, and standing as a global leader in the defence sector.”

Chance to have a say on new conservation areas

RESIDENTS in the Ribble Valley are being asked to comment on five new proposed conservation areas. In 2005, Ribble Valley Borough Council

commissioned consultants to appraise and provide management guidance for its 16 conservation areas and consider five new conservation areas at Hurst Green, Sab- den, Worston, Longridge-Newtown and Longridge-St Lawrence’s Church. The new appraisal and management

documents will inform council decisions on planning and environmental improvement

and residents are being invited to have their say on the proposed new areas, as well as changes to existing ones. The documents may be inspected at the

Council Offices in Church Walk, Clitheroe, and Clitheroe Library in Church Street. They can also be viewed on the council’s web site at www.rihblevalley.gov.uk Comments should be sent to Adrian

Dowd, Principal Planning Officer, Ribhle Valley Borough Council, Council Offices, Church Walk, Clitheroe, Lancashire, BB7 2RA, by January 31st.
