when buying your first bridal magazine, knowing your own body shape is the key. I t goes beyond tall, petite, slim, plus size - you also have to bear in mind your colouring, physical features and the line of your body." ■ HOURGLASS Karen advises going for strapless or off-the-shoulder

dresses to accentuate curves without overloading them. Avoid heavy beading or large accessories - one- piece dresses with a nipped- in waist are much more flat tering. A two-piece can tend to give you a 'choppy' look, whereas you should try to create a seamless effect," she says. ■ PEARSHAPED "This shape consists of

smaller shoulders and upper body compared to the lower body, so choose a dress that gives you volume on top and simplicity at the bottom," Karen recom- rnends. "Draw attention to your

top half and add a shoulder wrap made of delicate feathers around your shoul ders, or have silk flowers attached to the straps of your dress." ■ SHORT AND

PETITE Those with a petite figure

have the most options when it comes to dress style and shape, according to Karen. "Avoid heavy fabrics and

instead go for something more delicate - a netted princess style dress would look beautiful, as would shoestring straps and off- the-shoulder empire line dresses. "If you are wearing high

heels to create a taller body line then remember that if you change into flats in the evening this will change the overall effect." ■ BROAD SHOUL

DERS If you have broad shoul

ders and narrow hips then choose a dress that creates balance because you need volume from the waist down. "If you are tall with it,

then a full flouncy skirt mil work well as it creates the illusions of symmetry in size for top and bottom," says Karen. This year the most popu

lar colours for wedding dresses are soft and pale, with a distinct departure from harsh white. "There is lots of ivory,

cream, gold and rose, with dress details incorporating layers of different fabrics, including antique'lace, crushed silk, feathers and tiny diamantes," Karen reveals. "Couture wedding dresses are keeping with tradition yet also offering a twist to enhance a bride's own individual style. "But if a personally

handmade dress isn't an option, many brides are buying a designer off-the- peg dress and then having it subtly customised."

Floyd tribute band date PINK FLOYD tribute band “Off the Wall”, who wowed a large crowd when they played an outdoor gig at Clitheroe Castle last year, are back in the area. They will perform a packed two-hour show at King George’s Hall, Blackburn, tomorrow night, including a spectacular moving lightshow plus superb aniiha- tions and videos projected onto the classic Floyd cir cular screen high above the stage. Bass guitarist Paul Barker commented: “After Live

speculation about the Floyd getting back together, but now it is pretty clear that they are unlikely to ever tour again. As fans we are sad that this is the case, but we are happy to carry the torch and continue to recre ate the Live Floyd experience.” To book tickets, call the box office on 01254 582582.

A YOUNG, talented and ambitious amateur the atre company from the Ribble Valley is about to stage its eagerly-awaited F; second production. The Barefoot Theatre

Barefooters take to the stage for charity Pub venues in dining guide

Company was formed by a group of young women tS? who all studied and were friends at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School. Their first production, staged at Clitheroe’s St Mary’s Cen tre last year, was “Be My Baby”, a provocative play set in the 1960s and an ambitious undertaking for any group, let alone such a fledgeling one. It proved a big success, raising around £850 for

charity and firing the actors’ enthusiasm. Now the Barefoot women are back on stage with a produc tion of April De Angelis’ play “The Positive Hour”, to be staged at the Thwaites Empire Theatre, Blackburn, tomorrow. Darkly hilarious and emotionally savage, “The

Positive Hour” tells the story of four women who lives collide as they attempt to face their respective difficulties and responsibilities. The women must deal with failure, love, hope, family, disillusionment, infidelity and lies... not to mention Hegel and a man in a hood. Joining the original Barefoot company of Emma

Charnley, Anna Tunnard, Erica Mileham, Natasha Finch and Rebecca Barnes are two new actors, Ben Shepherd and Bill Ruddock. The cast also includes an eight-year-old girl, played by Georgina Dewhurst, and Barefoot extends its gratitude to the Dewhursts for their support. All profits from the production will again go to

charity, this time to Carers Link, a local charity car ing for the needs of those who care for others. Tickets can be bought from the Theatre Booking

Office, by calling 01254 680137 or by sending a SAE and cheque payable to: Thwaites Empire Theatre Trust Ltd (Aqueduct Road, Ewood, Blackburn BB2 4HT). Tickets cost

concessions. Audience members should note that this play contains material which some might find offensive.
