18 Clitheroe Advertiser &Times, Thursday, March 9th, 2006 • H' radio
station back on airwaves
by Duncan Smith
HOPING to be back “on air” this summer, Kibble Valley's community radio station is calling on local peo-
, pie to get involved with a fund-rais ing Easter fun day. Kibble Valley Radio will be opening
the doors of the St Mary's Centre, in Church Street, Clitheroe, on Saturday April 15th and everyone is invited along
• to share the fun. But Mark Evans, the station's treas
urer, explains that help is needed right now to make the day a success. He said: • “We are calling on local businesses to help us out by booking a stall or donat ing a prize for the raffle. . “This will be an ideal way of promot-
, mg their business, as well as contribut ing towards Kibble Valley Radio's fund raising efforts. “Hopefully there ivill be something for
everyone. Whether it's face-painting for children or the chance to record your own mini radio show, we hope it will be a great Easter event. “And every penny we raise on the day
will go towards getting the Kibble Val ley's own station back on air.” •
Kibble Valley Radio broadcast for a
one-month trial period last December and proved popular with a growing number of listeners. The team is now trying to raise
£6,000 to pay for another trial broadcast licence, and they hope to be hitting the airwaves once again in June. ■ The Easter fun day is the first of a
series of fund-raising events planned throughout the year. ^ ^ A stall or table at the event is only
£10 plus a dontion of a prize for the raf fle, but Mark urges local businesses or
. community groups to book now, as there are not many spaces left. , There is also a rather strange request
from the station's fund-raisers - they want someone to lend them an Easter bunny costume!
Mark said: “One of our DJs, Paul
Johnson, has volunteered to walk round town on the morning of the 15th dressed as a bunny handing out leaflets. I think he thought we wouldn't get one so he would be sate, but we think it will be a great way to attract attention on the day.” :,:.

SHARP-SUITED crou piers took over a church hall to help raise money for park play equipment. Members of the Sabden ■
Play Park Trust enjoyed the thrill of a casino - complete with roulette wheels, black jack and poker tables inside St Mary’s Hall to raise money for a wheelchair- : accessible roundabout; Mrs Alison Watson, chair-.
man of the group, said: “A group of mums formed the group in 2004 because we:: were worried that there was little play provision for tod dlers in the village. : Up to now we have raised
£15,000 for a multi-unit and swings, which are to be
installed soon. We now want to put in a special round about but it will cost £11,000 so we are holding a number of fund-raising events. We had a casino night last year which went very well, and so invited back the Las Vegas Fun Casino again. ‘T would, like to thank all
the local businesses and peo ple who sponsored a table on the night.”
. . The group still needs to ■raise another £9,000 and if anyone would like to support them they can call Jacqui Ashton on 770499. ■ Pictured are some of those

A MAN who adopted the Kibble Valley as his second home and spent many happy, hours enjoying the company of his son and grandchildren, died aged 93.
Harry Foley, a resident of
Clitheroe Care Home, was born in Eltham, London. Moving to
■ Central London, he left school and started work for a whofele chemist.
: He met his late wife, Amy,
and the couple married prior to his joining the RAF and being stationed at Warminster and Morecambe. After the war, he worked for London Transport, moving
eventually to St Albans from where he retired in 1979. As a bus conductor, he worked on Express Greenline Coaches, which still run in London, and Routemaster Coaches, which were withdrawn in 1974. A restored model of the latter, driven by one of his friends, was used as a funeral hearse on Tuesday,
- ■ In retirement he became
active at St Albans City Hall as assistant floor manager and was witness to the attempt to blow up the Royal Marines Band at what is now the Alban Arena. An avid model railway enthu
