Residents in for a treat with A Cappella group

RESIDENTS in Chipping are looking forward to a concert by the A Cappella Singers on Sat

urday. The evening of choral music under the title of

“Rejoice in the Lamb” will be the first time the singers have performed in the village’s St Bartholomew’s Church. Under the artistic lead of musical director

Andrew MacLaren from Preston, this highly acclaimed group of singers from the Hyndbum, Blackburn and Ribble Valley area, will perform music by composers Mendelsohn, Britten, Per- golesi and Haydn that has been specially chosen to coincide with the Easter period. singers are not afraid of performing several new works in the repertoire at every concert, and this concert will be no exception. John Gray, who is well known in the area, will

accompany the group and will play a solo item on the newly refurbished organ of the parish church of Chipping. Tickets are already selling well for the concert,

which will start at 7-30 p.m. However, there is still time to secure a seat with admission plus programme for the evening costing £5 (conces sions £4) with those under 12, going free. Tickets and further details about Saturday’s

concert can be obtained from John Gray on 01254 884401 or chairman Jean Robinson on 01254 246130 or e-mail: arthurandjean@tis- cali.co.uk The singers are on the lookout for future ven

ues for 2007 onwards, and have several dates that are available. Performing to audiences of no less that 100

people, they have been able to raise substantial funds for many charity groups over their 11-year history. Help is available in the promotion of any con

cert that they support and anyone who like more details should contact either Martin Sales on 01254 885365 (e-mail: martindsales@ntl- world.com) or the concert co-ordinator Anne Gray on 01254 884401.

Valley youngsters take a trip into the land of poetry

PRIMARY and high school pupils from across the Ribble Valley have worked togeth er to write and publish a new poetry book. Pupils from five primary schools were

invited to submit poems for a book being compiled by a Young Enterprise company. Titled “I Saw, I Thought, I Wrote”, the

booklet is just one of several products being marketed and sold by Energo, the Young Enterprise company from Ribblesdale High School Technology College. The aim of the poetry book was to give

youngsters an outlet for the skills they learn in Key Stage 2 literacy. Such was its popularity that the original 32-page book, which features poems by
