Worsthorne struggled to play passing football on a dry pitch. But Rimington started


as they meant to go on and a move down the right resulted a corner. O’Neill swung it in with his trusty left foot and the ball curled straight into the net. However, indecision in


defence almost led to an equaliser as Kershaw hesi­ tated but then made the save after the ball had bounced off his chest. He then did well as a


corner was swung in low and he smothered the ball as the forwards rushed in. Coulter broke down the


right to reach the by-line and his driven cross result­ ed in an own goal. It wasn’t long before Worsthorne pulled a goal


back when a free kick from the half-way line was launched into the area and the centre forward pow­ ered home a header. The second half saw


Rimington in control and they created enough chances to have finished the game off but, thanks to great saves and goal line clearances, they could not. Alan Sayle saw his head­


er tipped away as it almost crept in. Simon Barker’s effort was cleared off the line, as was Martin Law­ son’s, but at 2-1 there is always the danger of a goal against the run of play and Worsthorne had a great chance as the ball hobbled in the area but their forward hooked the ball over the bar. This was another game


in which Rimington showed spirit and character and it sets up what could be a thrilling final against tablertoppers Hurst Green at Shawbridge next Thurs­ day (7p.m.). The two sides face each


other this Saturday at Rim­ ington in a dress-rehersal with Hurst Green looking to seal the league title. Riminylon....................2 Stacksleads ................. 1 RIMINGTON completed the double over Stack- steads thanks to a fine first half performance and a brace of goals from Tom O’Neill. The first strike came in


the fourth minute. Martin Lawson picked out O’Neill’s run into the box from a free kick and O’Neill placed the ball in as the keeper advanced. In the 12th minute


O’Neill struck again as his shot flew into the far cor­ ner. The home side have to


re-shuffle as Tom Bartlett was left concussed after colliding with Kershaw as he attempted a headed clearance, Terry Nelson replaced him in midfield. Rimington should have


made more of their posses­ sion but could not carve out another clear cut


chance. Dave Whalley’s far post header, which just went over, was the nearest Rimington came. Stacksteads had their


moments but found Ker­ shaw to be in commanding form in his area. Nelson moved to the


right in the second half, swapping places with Watkins who took over the central role and Riming­ ton tried to use Nelson’s pace to their advantage. One storming run ended


with a low driven cross that eluded everyone in the box but the home side struggled to get any rhythm going, allowing the ■visitors to boss the half. With 12 minutes remaining a ball to the left winger resulted in him lob- bing it to the back post and it was headed home. Tempers flared as Stack-

minutes ensured Tierney his second and Wadding­ ton another 5-0 lead going into the break. Credit must go to Hor­


ton in the .second half as they battle and never gave up. But good movement on ball saw a good finish from Adrian Hirst make it 6-0. A penalty was awarded


to Horton only for the strike to be missed as both teams battled it out for the final 20 minutes and Waddington had a second


penalty awarded. Adam Spencer took the


spot kick but the keeper saved only for Wayne Boothman to fire home the rebound. The game kicked off but for the first 25 minutes the

awful. So it came as no surprise when they went a goal down. Sam Dean did hit the


bar with a free kick but within minutes it was 2-0 when a Long Lee striker found the top corner from outside the box. Waddington then began


to play and after good work from Ainger, Simon Hodgson fired home with a finish that gave the keep­ er no chance. Waddington nearly


drew level after Holden got down the wing but Sam Dean’s effort was cleared off the line. In the second half


Waddington started to press but it was just not their night, as, despite going going close, it proved to be the lads from Keigh­ ley who scooped another goal to put the game out of reach. The locals can take a lot


out of this game as to make the final was just desserts for what has been a successful season, which comes to a close bn Wednesday against Car- letoni The game is at Roe- field and all players are asked to meet at 5-30 p.m. as the locals go in search of the three points that would seal their promotion bid.


Penalty heartache strikes Wolves for second year running


Wolves Under 12s.........1 Pendle Forest...............1 (Forest won 4-1 on pens) IT was heartbreak time again for the Wolves as they lost a cup final on penalties for the second successive season. Obviously upset by the


defeat, the team must take heart from the way they played because there real­ ly was little difference between the two sides. Throughout the match,


the Wolves showed great commitment and determi­ nation and, but for a great save by the opposition goalkeeper from a Clark­ son shot, a victory could have been celebrated.

It was a fast pace from


the start with Burnley bombarding the Wolves defence. Goalkeeper Rebecca Edwardson made four excellent saves but Burnley found the back of the net twice, leaving Wolves 2-0 down at half­ time. Wolves regrouped for


the second half and start­ ed to show the skills that got them through to the


■ final but Burnley’s onslaught on goal and some excellent football from their captain Natalie Cassidy proved too much on the day. Niamh McCarthy was Wolves’ player-of-the-match.
