Wl It has been a busy week for members of Hurst Green’s WI. After appearing on stage in Hmst Green on Saturday evening, they were off to


Blackburn on Sun­ day afternoon to take part in the 75th birthday celebrations of the North-West Federation. The Tiller girls, together with their chorus line of Hula girls, were the last act, and attracted much attention and laugh­ ter.

At the previous evening’s Cabaret evening, members had also performed “Operatic Opera­ tions”, which they had performed at their own 50th Birth­ day celebration in April as a reprise of a skit first performed several decades ago by other members.


Tonight is the annual meeting of the Hurst Green branch, begin­ ning at 7-30 p.m. in the Memorial Hall. There will also be a talk by Mrs Made- laine Adey, a Cruse Bereavement Coun­ sellor.


Variety club The Ribble Valley Branch of the Vari­ ety Club of Great Britain is hosting a Virgin Vie ladies evening on Wednes­ day in the Shirebum Arms Hotel, Hurst Green.


The evening com­ mences at 7-30 p.m. and admission is £3 so bring along a Christmas present list, you are sure to find the perfect pres­ ent.

PENDLETON Collection


Slight changes are being made to the refuse collection serv­ ice in Pendleton. Due to the closure of the landfill site at Hen- thorn, waste is being tipped at Whinney Hill landfill site near Accrington, from November 25th. As there will be more travelling time involved, from today, refuse will be collect­ ed at 7-30 a.m. not later in the day.

Play park An early Christmas Fair at the weekend raised £400 for Sab­ den Play Park Trust. The event was held in the Baptist Hall in Clitheroe Road and a team of hard-working volunteers manned stalls and tombolas and ran a raffle.


Car park The second public meeting to discuss the introduction of car parking charges on the village car park takes place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Methodist Schoolroom, Wesley Street.


The Trust is now well on the way to raising £28,000 to give the village play area a major facelift with new equipment. The fund-raising committee thanks the volunteers, every­ one who went along and companies who sponsored the event. A further fund-rais­ ing event is planned for tonight in St Mary’s Church Hall, in Whalley Road, where pop band Vivid will entertain. Admission is £5.
