It’s red hot behind the counter!

IT may have been cold outside, but the tempera ture was rising inside Har rison and Kerr butchers last Friday. With more beef on dis

play than usual, customers were treated to a rare serv ice by the butch butchers, who bravely bared (almost) all to raise nearly £300 for Children in Need. Boxer shorts and bow ties, beneath their butchers’ aprons, was all that spared their customers’ blushesl The female members of

staff were also game, sporting pyjamas under their pinnies. Organised by owner, Mr

Brian Hodges, who want ed to do something out of the ordinary for the national appeal, donations were collected from satis-

SCHOOLS, businesses, organisations and individ uals across the Kibble ’Val ley rallied to the annual BBC Children in Need appeal, helping to once again break all previous records.

Whether dressing up or stripping off, baking cakes or just collecting cash, local fund-raisers did their bit. Here is a round-up of just a few of the Children in Need stunts across our area.

100 ways to help MORE than £100 was raised by two best friends who took part in a three-legged sponsored walk in aid of Children in Need. Milly Wardle (12) and Jessye

Curtis (13), both from Ciitheroe, were joined a t the hip for two hours as they wandered around the town receiving generous dona tions for the national charity. The pupils at Ribblesdale High

School Technology College, who also received money from family and friends, were praised by Milly’s mother, Mrs Tricia War dle, who said the girls had wanted to do something to help raise money for the appeal. Our picture shows Milly and

Jessye dressed up in their outfits ready to do their three-legged walk, (s)

staff slaved over hot stoves. Some of the good ies were auctioned off with a chocolate cake baked by temporary legal services manager Diane Rice rais ing £30. Picture shows from left

to right, front row, council staff Zoe Keeler, Adele Curtis, Anna Czarno- grebel, back row, Peter Fletcher and Jane Hors- field, selling cakes to raise funds for Children in Need. (CR181105/4)

A PUDSEY made from pennies helped to raise more than £370 at Gisburn Primary School for Chil dren in Need. Children brought in their pennies

and other loose change to create the picture of Pudsey Bear with the school logo. When all the money was counted it came to £188, which by

sheer coincidenec was exactly the amount raised by the children in Class Three, who sold delicious homemade cakes for the Children in Need appeal. That meant that in just two days

the village school had raised a total of £376. Headteacher Andrew Symonds

commented: “The children really look forward to this time of year, everyone works together and we are very proud of their efforts for such a good cause.” Our picture shows all of the chil

dren from Class One gathered around the school’s “Penny Pudsey”. (s)
