Keep those gifts rolling in to us

by Natalie Cox

THE countdown to Christmas is on.

With just 30 shopping days to go, the festive season is fast approach

ing. For many Kibble Valley residents.

thoughts are starting to turn to present buying for family and friends. As you, our readers, go out and

about in the Valley buying your gifts, we would ask you to buy just one more extra special present for a Clitheroe child. For the second consecutive year

the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times has joined forces with the local Sal vation Army to launch a Toy Appeal. Together our aim is to provide

new to ys and gifts for as many needy tots to teens in Clitheroe this Christmas as we can. Last year our Toy Appeal made a

difference to 94 youngsters who all received presents provided by read ers of the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times. Local Salvation Army leader Capt. Elizabeth Smith said: “We could not have made Christmas spe cial for these families without the help of the presents donated by readers of the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times.”

The Salvation Army staff were

overwhelmed by the response to the first Toy Appeal and they are confi dent that the people of this town will rally round to help again this

year. Said Capt. Smith: “Last year we

felt the residents of Clitheroe pulled out all the stops to help those who are disadvantaged for whatever rea son. People really seemed to feel they were helping.” This year there are two collection

points where toys and other items can be taken - the Clitheroe Adver tiser and Times office in King Street or the Salvation Army shop in Low

ergate which is open between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays and on Saturdays until noon. The last day for collection will be

Thursday, December 8th, to give Capt. Smith and Lt Brenda Wise time to sort out the goods and dis tribute them to families who have been identified by a variety of agencies as being most in need. Gifts do not need to cost a lot - a

couple of pounds buys hair acces sories for young girls, toiletries and stationery items for the boys or a toy for a toddler. • ON Christmas Day a warm

welcome will await at the Salvation Army’s special Christmas lunch. Capt. Smith, Lt Wise and a team

of volunteers will be providing a fes tive lunch, as well as a few hours fun and fellowship at their base in Low ergate for people, of any age, who would otherwise be spending Christ

mas Day alone. Anyone wanting to attend simply

needs to let the Salvation Army know by filling in the coupon on this page. The completed form can be taken along to the Salvation Army shop or pushed through its letter

box. Volunteers willing to transport

people to and from the venue on Christmas Day, as well as helping out, can contact Capt Smith on 01200 428955 or 07709 351394.
