A GOOD year for walking and book sales was how the Clitheroe Group of the Eamblers’ Association reflected on 2005. The 37th annual meeting was held at
Clitheroe Cricket Club where chairman Jane Donnelly welcomed 32 members. In her address Mrs Donnelly reported
on the success of the Walks book which had now sold 2,100 copies. A second
book. The Hodder Way, is soon to be printed and Mrs Donnelly thanked all those who had contributed. Mrs Donnelly thanked all members of
the committee for their efforts during the year with particular thanks to Bert Wells , who was retiring after 20 years, to Ben Bro\vn for his work as secretary and to Pat Parrott and the footpath sec-
til
retariat. Ben Brown then gave his report as secretary saying although numbers had been down on the Wednesday evening and Tuesday walks, they had been up on the weekend walks. There had been more walks than ever during 2005, with 125 planned for 2006. Eegret was expressed that Lancashire County Council had decided that the bridge at
Mitton was not now to proceed although it was felt that pressure should be main tained in the event of any future change
of plan. Following the treasurer’s report and
approval of the accounts, Pat Parrott presented her report as footpath secre tary. As anticipated there had been some difficulties with the changes in responsi
bilities for the Clitheroe area footpaths although some good work has been down. All officers who were willing to stand again were re-elected. Ann Write was elected as treasurer, Dallas Hackett as committee secretary, Joyce Frost as auditor and new member Sue Appleton takes the post of press and publicity offi cer.

ding day and Norman only had a day’s leave,” recalled Mrs Burgess. “Because of rationing we could
n’t have a reception, but we went to Grindleton for a dance and that was our honeymoon!” In 1947 Mr Burgess came out of
the Navy and the couple rented their first home together in Hen- thorn Road, Clitheroe. Mr Burgess worked as an air

PUPILS at a Clitheroe High School put their baking skills to good use. The youngsters from Rib

up his sleeves to give them a floury hand. Money raised from selling
the mince pies will boost the Mayor's Fund, which pro vides Christmas parcels for local people aged over 80 and living alone. Mr Claydon thanked all
