Farmers’ Christmas show
FARMERS paraded their best livestock at Gisburn Auction Mart as they strived for first place in the Christmas Prime Cattle Show. Sponsored by East Lan
cashire chartered account ants, P.M. & M., the show attracted high quality cat tle from Lancashire and beyond. There were eight classes
in which farmers could enter their best stock, and the winning livestock in each category went through to the final, competing for
“Champion Beast of the Show”. The winners were William Timm and his 16- year-old son Jonathan, of Farmtec UK, Doncaster, with their 15-month-old Belgian Blue bull. Jonathan also scooped
first prize in the young farmer class, sponsored by M. & E. Hartley, of Rough- lee. He said: “It may seem a long way to come from Doncaster to Gisburn, but it is by far the best market around for auctions of sheep and cattle.” Overall Reserve Champi
on Beast of the Show was won by John Sharp, with his one-year-old Belgian Blue. Beverly Calvert, of P.M.
& M.’s agriculture team, said: “We have long-estab lished links to the agricul tural community. Our semi nars have proved popular over the years and have helped farmers improve their businesses. Sponsoring these shows is an extension of our commitment to agri culture in the region and we are proud to he associated with the shows.”
