Artist Nicola enjoys a first with new book

by Tracy Johnson

AN illustrator from the Kibble Valley is soon to have her latest work featured in a new children’s book due to be

released. Nicola Slater, from Duck Street, in

Clitheroe, has created the art work for the

novelty book “Joe’s Dog”. The 28-year-old, who works from home,

has used a mixture of painting and digital technology to create the effects needed for the book, which is aimed at one to five-

year-olds. Based around a character called Joe, who

is searching for a dog, it is the third chil dren’s book the artist has worked on, but

the first novelty one. Nicola said illustrat ing for this type of book, which allows chil dren to touch and feel the artwork, was a new experience for her, which she thor oughly enjoyed. She added: “I t was great fun doing the

book and I’m really pleased with the end result.” The talented artist, who was trained at

Burnley College and Buckinghamshire University, has also worked on campaigns for Eurostar and various other illustrations for books and newspapers, but hopes to concentrate on children’s books in the future. Our picture shows Nicola with a copy of

“Joe’s Dog” (A100105/2a) and below, some of her illustrations.
