Girls prove to be the tops in cricket festival

GIRLS proved to be good sports during the inaugural Kwik Cricket Tournament held a t Ribblesdale Wanderers’
Cricket Ground. • ' The event, attended by teams of
girls from four primary schools, was hosted by Ribble Valley Borough Council and is part of an English
Cricket Board promotion initiative
; The initiative, which was set up to attract more girls to the game, also aims to find Ribble Valley rep resentatives to play for the Lan cashire Youth Games. The four primary schools taking
part in the competition were: Chat- burn, Waddington and West Brad ford, Balderstone and Salesbury. County cricketer Jennifer Lay-
cock attended the tournament to offer coaching tips and Ribble Val
ley Borough Council sports devel opment officer Tom Bamber said he was pleased with the way the first tournament had gone. He commented: "Hopefully this
will be the start of something good for girls' cricket in the area and we now hope to hold the event annual ly."
