THREE computer-minded Ribble Val ley NHS staff received their European Computer Driving Licence certificates

Celebrating in style A MAGICAL and glamorous evening was enjoyed by pupils from St Augus tine’s at their leaving prom. Held at Mytton Fold Hotel, in

Langho, the Year 11 students arrived in style, with stretch limousines, vin tage cars and even a red helicopter escorting them to the venue. More than 140 pupils and 40 teach

ers from the Billington school were treated to a three-course meal, disco and student presentations. Our picture shows some of the pupils

at their prom. (T040705/2k) ® More pictures in next month’s issue of the Valley magazine.

Plans in hand during library closure

CONTINGENCY arrangements should ensure local bookworms do not lose out during the temporary closure of Clitheroe Library. Essential maintenance work

needs to be carried out on the library meaning it will be closed from Monday, July 11th to Tues day, July 19th inclusive. Library staff are allowing bor

rowers to take out extra books if they wish until Saturday to stop them running out of reading material during the closure. Other libraries in the area such

as Whalley and Chatburn will be open as usual. Borrowers have been given extra

time on their loan period to allow for the building closure so that no items will actually be due back during that time. Items already on loan can be

renewed by ringing 0845 0501083 or by accessing the Lancashire Libraries website at www.lan- cashire.gov.uk/libraries The library w ill reopen on Wednesday, July 20th, at 9-30

from Northern Technologies during a presentation last week. ■Sheila Healey from Waddington,

Anne Geldard and Susan Harper both from Clitheroe, received awards at the event, held to congratulate Trust staff who have completed their ECDL quali fication. All three work at Clitheroe Health

Centre. Steve Wilkinson, Business Develop

ment Director of Northern Technolo gies, the business support and training group, opened the ceremony and empha sised the importance.of computer train ing: "ECDL enables steff to obtain a transferable qualification wherever they work. It is a benchmark for everyone to follow."

The ECDL covers essential aspects of

IT such as word-processing, spread sheets, databases, presentations and the Internet. It enables students to demonstrate

their computer skills, raising knowledge and productivity at work. The qualification has been adopted by

the NHS as their “standard” with many other staff also taking the course. Tutor Mr Michael Binns emphasised

the value of continuous development and said-the trio should be proud of what they have achieved: "We are here to celebrate this success

and congratulate everyone on complet ing the course, your hard work has paid off." Pictured, from the left: Sheila Healey,
