Seasonal meeting | proves a success

THE Ribblesdale Camera Club's Christmas meeting is always an enjoyable affair, with the clubroom decorated and mince pies served after a

short meeting. This year, chairman Jeff Cowl

ing first showed the 2005 Dug- dales Nutrition calendar. For a number of years, the club has supplied images for this calendar of farming and countryside

scenes. This gives members a chance

to see their pictures in print and gives an additional incentive to observe and record the way of life in the north of England, rather than always to look to exotic for eign places.

Rosemary Nolan and Cal

Hudson, (s) IT For the first time, digital pho

tographs, providing they were of sufficient technical quality, were acceptable. In the event, images by Jeff Cowling, Stephen Robin son, Ken Geddes, Lesley Marklew and Eleanor Friend were used; about half from digi tal files and half from colour

slides. On much the same type of

theme, but even closer to home, the second part of the evening was devoted to the results from a summer evening spent in the chairman's garden in Grindleton. There were two prizes of a gourmet dinner for two as guest of Jeff and Judy for the best pic

tures. In the event, two prizes were

awarded, as there was not a clear winner from about half-a-dozen pictures of interest and high quality. Stephen Robinson was judged

winner of the prints with a print picture across the Ribble Valley, enhanced considerably by a horse rider in a bright jacket. He also won the slides with a brilliant p o r tra i t of treasurer John Bradley. In the digital section, Ian

Black's picture of Ivy Leaf Toad flax, taken from ground level, simply glowed with vibrant colours and was a worthy winner of this section. Inquiries on membership or

other matters to 01200 440868 or 01200 423474.

Jason has become a popular figure with Whalley’s young and old residents because of his on going work in the community. Earlier this year

he was one of the first PCSOs in Eng land to be officially recognised for his exceptional dedica

arranged numerous junior discos for local youngsters throughout the year, but he also manages the Whal- ley youth football team and during last year took young people on a trip to Alton Tow ers.
