Angelic voices at castle gates
A CROWD gathered around the Clitheroe Cas tle gates to listen to the angelic voices of pupils from Edisford Primary School during the Christ mas Crib Service. The annual festive event,.
attended by the Clitheroe Town Mayor and May oress, Coun. Allan Knox and his wife. Sue, plus the Kibble Valley Mayor, Coun. Mary Robinson, featured three carols sung by a choir of juniors from the Clitheroe School.
Beginning with a wel
come from the Rev. Norma Johnson, of the United Reformed Church, the service also included a reading from the Clitheroe Mayor and a final com ment th a t he wished all present a happy and joyful Christmas and New Year. Our picture shows pupils
from Edisford Primary School singing carols at the Castle gates joined by then- headteacher, Mr Robert Pye, and teacher Lisa Hel- lak (A241105/4)

Christmas Dairy Show and Sale -1 1 top £ lk
ELEVEN animals achieved prices topping £1,000 when Gisburn Auction Mart held its Christmas Dairy Show
and Sale. It was a Christmas cracker
of a day for Rathmell farmer John Holgate, whose five- day calved pedigree heifer, giving six gallons, was star of the show.
She picked up all three tro
phies - the Directors’ Silver Challenge Cup for best ani mal in show, the Henry Bradley Trophy for the best homebred animal and the Horace Bowen Memorial Trophy for the best pedigree animal - in the pre-sale show. Later in the day she sold for £1,100 to pre-sale judge John Young, of Dum fries.
Sale topper was a pedigree
newly-calved heifer, from David and Sue Graveston, of Bolton-by-Bowland, which sold for £1,300 to N. Ellis and Son, of Huddersfield. There was a great buzz around the ring, with 11 ani mals achieving £1,000 or more, a great day for all
• dairy vendors. Other local farmers in the
money included young Guy Pearson, from West Marton, whose third prize heifer, seven days-calved and giving four-and-a-half gallons, sold for £1,000 to John Dodgson, of Bank Newton. Sharing Rathmell’s glory
were J. E and M. Frankland, whose first prize pedigree cow, a second calver, sold for £1,150 to J. C. Young. Spirited bidding in the in-
calf section from H. A. Bradley and Son, of Salter- forth, saw them take home the champion in-calf heifer at £1,000 from M. Bretton, of Brighouse, and the third prize winner, a very flashy red Ayrshire heifer due to
