in the high-performance sports car now has a 4.0-litre capacity in the seven-seat off-roader. It does not sound like a particularly sensible course of action, but Nissan knows what it is doing. In adding 456cc of extra capac­ ity, it has actually cut the engine's power output from 276 b.h.p. in the 350Z to 265 b.h.p. in the Pathfinder. Torque, the stuff that all good off-road engines are made of, has been increased at the same time, so that the Pathfinder’s 4.0-litre V6 can marshal a hefty 385Nm whereas the 350Z’s 3.5-litre unit can only scrape togeth­ er 362Nm. The Pathfinder’s petrol is
