Diver’s body identified

A BODY discovered in Scottish waters is th a t of former Clitheroe man Neil Robertson who went missing during a diving expedition in the Sound of Mull. A massive search operation involving

eight vessels, a Royal Navy helicopter from HMS Gannet at Preswick, local craft and coastguard units, together with Strathclyde police divers, was launched on March 13th, to find the 51-year-old who disappeared while exploring a ship wreck in the West Coast of Scotland. Due to heavy rain and strong winds,

the search was suspended until there was

a break in the weather. Last Thursday, an underwater search

involving police diving units, a local boat crew and a remotely-operated vehicle found his body, off Lochaline. The remains were positively identified

by his family soon after and a post mortem is to be carried out. Mr Robertson’s parents, Mr and Mrs Ian and Ellis Robertson, still live in

Clitheroe. The funeral details are to be arranged.

Insp. Bob Ford as a "nasty" offence, the woman suffered facial injuries and bruising to her knees when she was knocked to the ground and had her handbag stolen. The incident took place

in Woodlands Park, between 9-30 p.m. and 10- 30 p.m. while the victim was on her way home. The handbag contained

£40 in cash, two credit cards, a set of driving glasses and a Sony pic ture mobile phone which was later recovered near the scene of crime. Insp. Ford said the

attack was unprovoked and urged people to be more vigilant when walk ing alone. The four offenders are

said to be in their late 20s.

One is about 5ft. 9in.

tall and was wearing a cream and white jumper with stripes in the middle. Anyone who can help is

asked to contact Clitheroe police on 01200 443344, or Crimestoppers

on 0800 555111.
