Advantage of camera club membership

ONE of the lesser-known advantages of being a camera club member is the access to the wide range of meetings held by the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Alliance and the Royal Photographic Society. Last week a number of Ribblesdale Camera Club mem

bers attended “The Big Day of Digital Photography” in St Martin’s College, Lancaster. The demand was such that two lecture theatres had to

be used. The morning session had three contributors, one of

whom was Mr Barrie Thomas, the well-known expert on Photoshop,-talking about getting good quality black-and- white prints, digitally. After an excellent lunch, the after noon started with Mr David Rowley, a brilliant photogra pher who claimed that he had never attended any courses or even read a book on Photoshop. He was followed by the Editor of Practical Photography, Mr Will Cheung, and the assistant editor of Digital Photography, Mr Jon Adams, the latter demonstrating very clearly how to create mon tages. In between there was a trade room where free maga zines and films were on offer, as well as many items for sale. There was also a’picture gallery. Next week, there will be the judging of the first of two

themed competitions. The themes of the competition will be “Emotions", “Clothes” and “The Decisive Moment”. Club member Mr Mick Caddy will be considering the entries.

Ladies show their style

MEMBERS of Clitheroe Lady Farmers met in Bolton-by-Bowland Village Hall for a demonstration entitled “Hair and Beau

ty”. Hairdresser Mrs

E.Thomber, of Maine Line, in the Swan Courtyard, Clitheroe, and her staff gave a demonstration on tin tin g and styling hair, while Mrs D. Eagles, of Beauty With Inn, of Chat- burn, carried out a facial and non-surgical face lift using lady members of the NFU as models. Thanks were expressed by Mrs S. WhitweU. Following tea and cakes

president Mrs A. Smith conducted a short business meeting during which she asked for a minute's silence in memory of three former members who had recently died. Ending on a brighter

note, two members were congratulated on their 80th birthdays.
