ELVIS lives! Or at least his memo ry does, in an outstanding tribute show coming to Blackpool’s Grand

Theatre. The Elvis Collection is currently

touring throughout the U.K. and Europe paying tribute to "The King of

rock ’n roll". This is not a lookalike show, but a trib

ute in the purest sense with this spectacu lar band recreating the greatest hits of Elvis Presley’s 23-year recording career. Listen to songs like “Jailhouse Rock”, “American Trilogy”, “Suspicious Minds,” “Johnny B. Goode” , “Devil in Disguise”, “Hound Dog” and lots more sung with passion and attention to detail. Band co-founder Billy J. McGregor

said; “With The Elvis Collection we take the legend of The King back to what real ly counts - the music. “Elvis was such a charismatic guy that

too many Presley tribute shows rely on jokey impersonations that completely misses the point. “We don’t do that! Every one of our

shows is a party that plays some of the greatest music ever made. Our show is over two hours long and we perform over 30 of Elvis’s recordings.” The Elvis Collection comes to the

Grand Theatre, Blackpool, on Sunday, November 16th. For tickets call the box office on 01253

stainless steel fermentation vessels and a traditional barrel cellar. Along with a beautiful villa with restaurant facilities, a wine shop which sells the estate’s own wine and olive oil, pressed and produced on the estate. Set in stunning countryside the estate boasts a huge lake and this in turn supports a diversity of wildlife. This is wine tourism in style. The original set tlement dates back thousands of years, while three monuments still exist from 1267 - a tower and an arch along with a small chapel, the wine making side was started in 1973 with the mod em winery built in 1987. The best wines from the estate are, without

doubt, the Esporao Reserva 2000. A rich vel vety crimson red wine matured in oak barrels. This is a blend of Trincadeira, Aragones (Tem- pranillo) and Cabernet Sauvignon which gives this wine a more New World style that is both easy drinking, with soft ripe tannins, but will keep for several years. The white style of the same wine is a blend of

Arinto, Antao Vaz and Roupeiro, all indigenous Portuguese grape varieties. This is barrel fermented in American oak

casks which gives the wine a powerful flavour in no uncertain terms. The oak seems to add a sweetness to the wine

and the slight almost charred flavour from the toasted barrels follows through on the palate, with a dry persistent finish. Both wines are available from D. Bjmie, the

white wine at around £7, while the red is £9, both represent excellent value for money and worth trying.

play review

TWELFTH NIGHT Royal Exchange

THE start of the Royal Exchange's production of one of Shakespeare's most popular plays is one of the most dramatic and spectacular I have ever seen, making great use of this won-' derfd theatre's special features. As the audience make their way to

their seats, they can hear the sound of waves, growing louder and breaking into a storm of thunderous noise and flashing lightening and then a sudden silence and the auditorium is filled with shafts of green light and two fig ures appear to be spinning downward, drowning.

. ' Thus Viola and her brother, Sebas

tian, arrive in Illstria, but it is a very strange land.

I , Director,Lucy Bailey, whose pro

duction of Midsummer Night's Dream last spring proved such a hit, gives us her own version of Elvis's "Heartbreak Hotel," where broken

hearted lovers cry away their gloom. Orsino, a character who can ’often

seem rather weak, is a Scots rock musician, played with force and

charm by Mark Bonner and Emma Cuniiffe m^es a delightful Viola. , The comic elements of the play are

superbly conveyed by Richard O'Callaghan (Sir Toby Belch), Jonathon Bond (Sir Andrew Aguecheek), Maria (Ellen Thomas) and multi-tdented Anthony Barclay

as Feste. Even the smaller part of Fabian is

cleverly played by Eliot Giuralarocca as the hotel concierge. John Ramm is excellent as Malvolio, very funny, suitably pompous, but with the nec

essary touch of sadness. And, of course, Lucy Bailey has

added her characteristic water feature which seems to be becoming her gim mick. The small puddle grows impercep

tibly bigger throughout, forcing the actors to jump from couch to couch to avoid it until inevitably, led by the

'hapless Olivia (Madeleine Worrall) they all get drenched as do many of those on the front row. Congratulations to all the cast for

■ their agility in leaping around all lev- elsof thespace.
