Adam aiming to be a big hit at The Buck
CRICKETING barman Adam Cotton hopes to prove a big hit in Clitheroe by bringing a taste of South Africa to the Rib
ble Valley. After three years in South Africa, Adam
has returned to take on the role of licensee/manager at the popular Buck Inn. And customers at the town centre hostel
ry can soon expect to see some exotic cock tails on offer alongside traditional pints. “I worked in bars in South Africa to sup
plement my income from cricket and thor oughly enjoyed the whole experience. They love their cocktails and are very big on ‘shooters’ too - if anyone doesn’t know what a shooter is then they should pop in to the Buck!,” said Adam. A native of the Fylde Coast, where he
played for St Annes CC, Adam was first given the chance to try his arm abroad back
in 1999. "South African Dave Callaghan was our
professional and he asked me out there as a paid amateur. I played for both Port Eliza beth CC and Pirates CC and spent two summers there before moving over perma nently for two years.
Computer boost for schools
by; Faiza Afzaal
CHILDREN from six local schools were in celebratory mood on Friday after receiving computer equipment from the Tesco store in
Clitheroe. The Tesco Computers for Schools Scheme, which is
now in its 12th year, enabled children from local schools to collect vouchers worth £5,350 of computer equipment, including PC’s, digital cameras and print
ers. The equipment was presented by Ribble Valley MP
Mr Nigel Evans. St Augustine’s RC High School, Billington, received a digital camera, as did St James’s CE Primary School, Clitheroe. Pendle CP School, and Brookside Primary School received a PC and monitor each. Other schools obtaining equipment included Bowland County High School, Grindleton, and St Michael and St John's RC Primary School, Clitheroe. Tracey King, customer service manager a t the
Clitheroe store, said: “The scheme is very successful indeed and the teachers and pupils are very pleased to be able to have the equipment.” Mr Paul Adnitt, headteacher at St James’s CE Pri
mary School, said: ‘iWe are very pleased with the camera. Years 5 and 6 use the computers in a number of ways and the digital camera will enable them to take photographs and use the computer to print them off. We have already got a smaller digital camera, but it is not as good as the one we received from Tesco.” Pictured is Mr Evans with pupils from local schools collecting the equipment. (B190903/1)
