Plenty to celebrate at Chatburn Road!

CLITHEROE Cricket, Ten nis and Bowling Club has had plenty to celebrate after another exciting sporting sum mer. They have finished with sil

verware in each of the sports after another successful cam paign on all three sporting fronts. In the Jennings Ribblesdale

League the first, second and third teams all finished in third spot in their respective division - and, most impor tantly, that' means the first team were again among the front-runners in the chase for the top title and will again fea ture in the Lancashire Cup next season. The Under 18s finished their

campaign as league champions and the Under 15s finished second in their division. Most notably Clitheroe

were the only club to field two teams iri the Urider 11s divi sion. That meant competitive

action every Thursday evening at.Chatburri Road, and the A team came within one game of completing a league and cup double. They won the league title in

emphatic style before missing out in the cup final when they lost to Read. On the bowling scene there

was promotion for both teams. The A team won the Second

Division of the Hyndburn and District Bowling League and

look forward to competing at a higher level next season. And the B team were run ners-up in the Second Division

. of the Great Harwood and ■ District Bowling League and also won promotion.

. ! On the tennis courts there was no shortage of success.

; Junior players won the East Lancashire Tennis League Junior Division after another season full of promise. And the seniors completed

another successful season by winning the Open Thrid Divi sion of the East Lancashire League and winning promo- ,tion. The mixed team finished .third in their division.

And after victory against the .

foraier Under 13 National Champions, they overcame another Tameside squad to take the title.

locals scored twice more, before the Pen- dle side came roaring back with four goals to set up a nervous finale. But a late’own goal settled the issue for

Chatburn. Newton handed the Ribble Valley side

a flying start after only 30 seconds, but Barrowford levelled from a corner after the locals’ keeper appeared to be fouled. Newton then set about a one-man mis
