TOMORROW’S completion of work on the council car park has not come soon enough for many Clitheroe

motorists. Complaints have been made concerning

a lack of signposting and information about the work. A repeated complaint was about the sign advising alternative car parking in Chester Avenue, which people said should have given information regarding the actual

location of Chester Avenue. The work has also caused some disruption

to traffic, with turning cars clogging Railway View Avenue and its junction with King Street.

Following the laying of new drainage and

stone setts, the main car park area was resur faced on Tuesday, and the re-marking of park ing bays will be completed today, which will ensure the project is completed on time. The work was publicised twice in the

Advertiser and Times, and leaflets giving more details of the work were available from the reception desk at the council offices and the Tourist Information Centre on Market Place. Council officials said that these were also distributed around the town, in particu lar to users of the car park. One unforseen headache for the council has

been the transport of tar on people’s shoes into the offices. Yesterday cleaners were in action power-scrubbing the stair carpets. Our picture shows the car park work in progress. (CR230903/2)

Judith (60) tackles a

triathlon to help brain f damaged children

A'WOMAN from Wilpshire will be running, cycling and swimming in Spain to help a children’s charity. Mrs Judith Dawson (pic

tured) will be taking part in the El Paraiso Triathlon to- raise money for the charity APRONA, which has a clinic in Estepona where brain-dam- aged children are treated. Mrs Dawson, who is 60, decided last year to start run ning to keep fit. She said: “Peo ple we know in Spain started saying to me, ‘you’ll be doing

the triathlon next’, so I thought why not?,1

event, which involves an eight kilometre run, 16 kilometre cycle ride and 30 lengths of a swimming pool, on October 5th. Her decision to make the

She will be setting off on the .

attempt was based on the fact that she knows a child who is being helped by APRONA. Mrs Dawson explained that

family friends who live near Estepona, and who are origi-

nally from the Ribble Valley, had twins, one of whom was brain-damaged, so she wanted to do something to help the charity. Anyone wishing to support

Mrs Dawson’s triathlon attempt and help raise money for the charity is invited to contact her and her family. (T110703/1)

How can this warning be ignored any longer? Clear ly there are implications here for people using the public footpath.” : Now Mr Borland has writ ten'to parish council chair man Coun.: Eric Ronnan seeking an urgent meeting, which could take place next week. The governors want to work out “an agreed strategy acceptable to all parties” and

But, it emphasises,'- “the branches overspreading the school grounds are a haz- ard ahd should be removed.” To cut out the need for the staff to constantly monitor that “keep away” instructions are followed, the governors say that a fence cutting off the affected area of the field would be acceptable - but only on a very temporary basis. ■ ■ One member of the parish

council, Coun. Norman Atty, suggested at last week’s meet ing that the age of the trees meant that dangers would

acknowledgement at Thurs day’s parish council meeting that, amply warned by branch falls, it could well face legal problems in the event of any accident. The issue has been featured

in the Advertiser! and Times ever since the-bough fell and the governors have been wanting action for some time. Their heightened concern goes back before the death of a primary schoolgirl killed by a falling tree in the South of England.
