Vendors ignore pessimistic view
LAST week’s “off to a flying start” commentary on the local housing market is ref lected in many other parts of the country. The National Association
of Estate Agents has con firmed that buyers are still about and price rises are set to continue. “We are seeing a market
' that remains resistant to the gloomy predictions of some commentators,” says the a s so c ia t ion. “Vendors remain undisturbed by recent highly pessimistic tabloid newspaper predic t io n s of crashing house prices. “With in te r e s t rates
remaining very low, proper-. ty remains very affordable and the underlying levels of demand are still high.” The dynamics that drive the market remain
unchanged, the association emphasises.
• EVERYWHERE-weD,
in Clitheroe, Burnley and Pen- dle to this writer’s certain knowledge, there is concern about three-storey “town houses”. Some certainly look tall
indeed and one builder, Bar ratt’s, is clearly sensitive about people’s views and seeks to inform them. Work will start soon on its
controversial 39-home devel opment in the Croft Street area, involving some re-align ment of local sports fields. Barratt’s has recently with
drawn an amended plan and is instead implementing the original permission granted,
with some reservations, by the local council. There are six designs on
what has been christened “Lit- tlemoorFarm.” The four-bedroom Wood-
cote design provides accom modation on three floors, but looks more like a traditional two-storey house.
The third floor comprises a
master bedroom occupying the full width of the property. It has a dressing area and an en-suite. Many of the properties
will overlook three sports grounds. Barratt’s expects a big demand, at prices so far unannounced, and opens an inquiry centre at the site on Saturday.
