Superstars of the 70s are reunited for tour
Rose Royce, Odyssey and the Real Thin ; Liverpool Mountfort Hall, Febru ary 27th, Bradford Penningtons, Febru ary 28th, Colne Municipal Hall, March 9th,Bolton Albert Halls,March 12th
ROSE ROYCE, Odyssey and the Real Thing have been reunited for the first time in six years to under take a full European tour, which includes a number of venues in the North West next month. For the first time in more
than 20 years Odyssey will feature both sisters from the original line-up, Lillian and Louise Lopez, with A1 Jack- son. Through the 70s and
early 80s Rose Royce domi nated the charts with their distinctive sound from the funk dance floor filler "Car Wash" to the haunting bal lad "Wishing On A Star". The group has played to sell out crowds around the
world, won four Grammy Awards, gained more than 200 gold, silver and plat inum discs and is about to record a new album for release next year. Odyssey's first hit,
"Native New Yorker", is played as much today in clubs and on radio as it was when first released in 1977. Their first number one hit was in 1980 with "Use It Up And Wear It Out", which spent four months on the charts, and went on to become a number one hit in 27 countries worldwide. The Real Thing were UK
pioneers of the disco sound of the 70s, originating from Liverpoola and fronted by Eddie and Chris Amoo.
Panto season not over yet
Snow White, Ribchester Parochial Hall, February 6th - 8th and 13th - 15th; the Wizard of Oz, Chipping Village Hall, next Friday
SO YOU think tha t the Glynn Anderton, Jimmy pantomime season is all over? Oh no it isn’t. There are still two groups
in the Ribble Valley busy at rehearsals, eager for curtain up on their first nights. Members of Ribchester
Amateur Theatrical Society have chosen “Snow White” as their 22nd annual panto. “Snow White” is written,
directed and produced by David and Julia Procter and among the cast are Jo Shipman, Hazel Thompson,
Dewhurst, Keith Flood, Jane Flynn, Rebecca Parkinson and Robin Sim mons. Even Chris Freeman,
Highly-acclaimed performance
The Mysteries; from Monday; the Lowry, Salford Quays
FOLLOWING the huge success of “The Island” and “Le Cos tume,” The Lowry hosts anoth er highly-acclaimed South African production next week. “The Mysteries,” which opens
on Monday, transports the 14th Century Chester Miracle plays from medieval Chester to con temporary South Africa. ■ The Lowry, at Salford Quays,
normally in a safe seat at the piano, has been persuad ed to forsake his keyboard and become a member of the cast. The second Ribble Valley
panto is “The Wizard of Oz” being staged by Thornley Birds in Chip ping Village Hall on Friday next week.
is the only venue in the North West showing “The Mysteries”, after its 2002 West End run at the Queen's Theatre, London, where it received unprecedented critical acclaim and audience reaction. Featuring a supremely ener
getic South African cast of 40, the singers, dancers and story tellers take audiences on a mag nificent journey in the native languages of the company, Xhosa, Zulu, Afrikaans and English.

Their vocal strength combines
everything from traditional African to gospel music to opera and jazz using instruments all made from reclaimed materials. This is the greatest tale ever
told, and the cast also has many tales of its own. The auditions were
announced on a local radio sta tion and thus attracted South Africans from all walks of life, many of whom had never been in a theatre before, let alone set foot on a stage. The varied cast provides a
true reflection of the diverse and rich heritage of their country. They are now practised per
formers, however, and have per formed this searing production all over the world. They sing and dance their
way through the story from Adam and Eve to the Resurrec tion.
