A challenge can be for our faith

good

YOUR correspondent last week was distressed by the "Thought for the Week” by the Rev. I. Robins. Some of us, however, appreciate the stimulus

of a challenge, however expressed, to think pos itively about the real essentials of our Christian faith. . Generalisations can just wash over the mind.

What a contrast in the

pendent living initiatives ("Rockmount" and Mitchell Street),whether through lack of fund ing, lack of political or professional commitment or through stigmatisation and stereotyping on the part of the "community", users of mental

nity for independence afforded to those people in our so-called "community" who struggle with poor mental health. No such provision for them. No such support for their carers and families. With the delays of plans for two recent inde

two methods of caring HOW marvellous to see initiatives such as that at St Ann's Court, reported last week in your paper and heraided by local dignitaries. These schemes cater for and respect human

health services in this area and their families are left marginalised and, in terms of housing pro vision, unsupported.

A well-behaved and

very friendly festival I WOULD like to reply to the letter from John F. Wilson. Does he not know that some Islamic people

have strongly critical names for people who dare not to believe in their religion? Perhaps he should think about that and its possible lessons for the future. I was at the Red, White and Blue Festival for

two days. The people were very friendly and well behaved. I speak as a 69-year-old woman. My friend who came with me also enjqyed her self. What is so wrong to want to be with your own .countrymen? After all other incomers to the area have their festivals.

E DUNNE, Ethel Street, Barnoldswick

Promoting all that is

good about Britain I WOULD like to respond to the contradictory letter written by Mr John F. Wilson. He c la im s that “as far as I am concerned, there is no room for Christianity in the BNP, for all children are of the same God.” Well Mr Wilson, firstly, I believe that you are

inversely using the name of our good Lord to further your own point of view. Secondly, you should take time out to ask people of different religious backgrounds if they firmly believe there is only one God, then I am pretty sure that followers of the Hindu faith, for example, will tell yod otherwise: Mr Wilson mentions that St John teaches that “you cannot love God without loving your

brothers and sisters," and adds “such love breeds acceptance, care and the building of a real community.” Well Mr Wilson, do you really love God? If

the answer to this question is yes, then accord ing to your beliefs, I am one of your brothers and you should therefore accept that I may have a differing political viewpoint to yours! I would also like to know what Mr Wilson’s

virion of “what truly lies behind the Red, White and Blue Festival” really is. A good friend of mine, who has asked not to be named, is a former police officer and current

church offficial and he thoroughly enjqyed the Red, White and Blue Family Festival. Accord ing to him: “I t was a promotion of everything

that is good about Britain and there should be more of it!” Finally, will Mr Wilson be writing letters to

the Press and making the same comments when Sinn Fein holds its national conference or when fellow Britons fly out to different countries to fight and then go on to mention the far reach ing effects this could have on our nation? Well, dear brother, I eagerly await to be informed!

Offensive addition to

this latest water bill ON September 8th the Water Bill will come before the House of Commons. There are many amendments to this bill, but

one particular amendment appears to have been surreptitiously included which we find very offensive and illegal. This amendment is designed to compel water

companies to add fluoride to the water supply (fluoridation) when requested by Strategic Health Authorities. Mass treatment of populations with fluoride

violates several EU Directives and Conven tions, and the UK Poisons Act 1972. The water companies want full civil and criminal indemni ty if they are forced to fluoridate. The following information has been written

by Mr Doug Cross, who is an independent forensic ecologist, well known for his work at home and abroad; he is particularly famous in China. He is a member of the Department of Health’s Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environ ment (non-food) - COT. He writes: "Fluoridation is controversial and

is the Government’s unsubstantiated claim that fluoride is safe. Silicofluorides are emphatically not the same chemical as fluoride, yet huge quantities of this virulent poison are added to approximately 10% of public drinking water in the United Kingdom every year without any safety assessment.” For further information please contact Mrs

fluoridation are not water treatment chemicals; they are people treatment chemicals. Under European Union legislation, any substance sold to treat a medical condition must be registered as a medicinal product and be produced and administered under strict rules. Helpful sometimes to

be a touch provocative I WAS heartened to read Thought for the Week (August 14th). As one who wishes to stay with in the Christian community, but finds it pro gressively more difficult to assent to the tradi tional religious emphasis on Biblical inerrancy in this post-modern society, I find it helpful to

know that there are others who face the same challenge. I believe that the Christian message is in dan

longer accept adherence to a dogmatic system of belief (we all have friends who will attest to that fact). However, there is ample evidence of a renewed interest in matters spiritual. There seems to me to be a golden opportunity for the churches to evangelise and offer a lifeline to those whose minds are formed by the scientific

traditional beliefs, can we not rejoice in the opportunity to revive the Christian message and to move forward into a more humane soci ety as the God who is Love is embraced and
