AN agricultural diversification project in the Ribble Valley is celebrating
after.being awarded a seal of approval by Les Routiers. Staff at Bashall Bam, afarm shop and cafe
located just outside Clitheroe, is the first out let in the county to receive the new bench mark, which is being awarded for excellence in farm shops by Les Routiers in association with the Farm Retail Association.
The bam, which opened about 18 months Id
ago, is run by Simon Barnes and his staff of 10. Said Mr Barnes: “I t has been a fantastic time and everyone involved has worked extremely hard to secure this Les Routiers
accreditation.” Only two other farm shops in the North-
West region have received the accreditation. Rita Exner, of the FRA, explained that to
achieve the necessary standard, assessors look at quality, service and value to the cus
tomer. She added that the score achieved,by Bashall Barn was one of the highest ever seen. “There is a stringent procedure to fpl- low to attain this status, and Bashall Bam achieved in 20 months what some take 20 years to match," she said. The report from Les Routiers about the
enterprise - converted from agricultural use some 18 months ago - noted: “This is a charming new farm and craft shop which has great opportunities for expansion.” ■ Said Mr Barnes: “We have a number of exciting plans to make Bashall Barn even better, and customers will see these intro' duced over the next year."

School’s investor award is renewed
A REVIEW of i ts work has resulted in renewal of Investors in People status for Edis- ford Primary School, Clitheroe.
. The review said that the school’s approach
to people development was consistent and encouraged everyone to look critically a t the process of continuous improvement. , - , “The Investors in People standard is well
embedded into school life,” said the review. “In overall terms a greater, focus has been
provided for learning and development, with a clear emphasis on increased pupil attain ment.”
, The review said that the staff room was a
focal point for both teaching arid support staff. Although this allowed some opportuni ty for the exchange of best practice, perhaps the school would benefit from a more for malised approach; However, the school staff have made i t clear they do notagree with th is ..
