h o u g h many of you liked the beefed-up mini 4 x 4 -s ty le stance and
speeds, but when you want the power to over take it’s possible to flick a small switch on the gearlcver that prevents the Ignis engaging top gear — in effect giving kickdown on demand without the usual stamping and cursing at the accelerator pedal in the face of oncoming
traffic. Fuel economy has
taken a bit of a knock, the automatic car’s aver
age figure of 38.5mpg would disappoint the
owner of a manual car who’ll eke 44 miles out of every gallon. Otherwise things are much as
before. You’ll be expected to 1 i
pay £750 on top of the manual car for the auto matic version, but given the Ignis range’s aggres sive pricing to begin with, few will baulk. Even without the auto matic option, the Ignis managed to walk away with Auto Express’ ‘Best City Runner’ category in their 2001 Good Car
Guide. The Ignis is never
going to bo the automat ic choice, but it’s certain ly an informed one.
