SOLICITOR Mr Robert Fielding brought a block buster romantic film to life when he decid ed to take a year out
| to travel the world. Just like Hugh Grant
| in the film "Notting Hill", he met his true love in a library. But the library was in
| known to her new family in England as Charlie. The couple married in
the Chinese City of Xian and his real-life "Julia Roberts" was Zhao Li -
| their first chance meet ing. In the meantime, the

bride was able to get a passport and come to Britain. Mr Fielding is one of

Farmer declares his land independent republic as a protest
SLAID BURN farmer Mr Paul Kenny has declared his land "an independent republic" in a defi ant stand against the Govern ment's handling of the foot and
mouth crisis. Mr Kenny (52), of Standridge
Farm, has repeatedly refused to allow Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs officials on to
his land. The farmer's stance, claims
DEFRA, has delayed the lifting of the D notice movement restrictions which have been in place throughout the
area. On Monday, Clitheroe police offi
cers accompanied DEFRA vets who
were finally given access to the dairy farm to test two lambs for signs of the
virus. This week, Mr .Kenny said he
regarded any invasion of his .land by officials "an act of war" after renaming
his farm "The Independent Republic of Kenny Land." He added that he would refuse to
recognise the British Government until it repaired the damage caused by its "incompetence." He also said that it was time someone took a stance and that he had been forced to let the offi cials on to his land against his wishes. Mr Kenny, who has farmed the land
for 20 years, claimed that he was tired of farmers being told what to do by people who had no idea what they were talking about'. He has written a letter to Prime Minister Tony Blair, giving up his British citizenship and declaring his farm a separate country. Meanwhile, the National Farmers
