goals in their last three league games, which has seen them lose their unbeaten record and drop to

third in the league. And Burgess said: “ I am con

cerned really. Our last three league games have seen us lose two and draw the other which isn’t really good enough. “The concerning aspect,

though, is the way we are conced ing goals. Earlier in the season we were winning games 1-0 and 2-1 but now we are starting to give

goals away. “1 can’t really put my finger on

it. I think we’ve lost a bit of con fidence and a bit of complacency has leaked into our game also." Sandwiched between the league

defeats have been two good cup wins but Burgess feels a marked improvement in performance is needed if Clitheroe are going to maintain their position near the top of the North West Counties’ Football League First Division. He added: “On Saturday we

didn't really trouble their keeper. We ju s t did enough to go

through. “ I was very disappointed on

Tuesday. We just did not apply ourselves like we have done. “We got ourselves in a winning

position at 1-1 but we just tailed- off for the remainder of the match and th a t just isn’t good enough." Second-place Mossley travel to

both sides. The Blues let slip a golden

ed.Burgess added: “We have to win th a t game not just for the points but also for our own confi dence after a couple of setbacks. “We have to go out there and

show what we arc made off. “This next month, in fact, is

going to be a make or break one for us with regards to the league

and cup. “We have some im p o r tan t

league fixtures coming up and also we have a couple of impor tant cup clashes. “So November is going to prove

to me whether we are going to be a force to be reckoned with this year or just a side which plays

well on its day. “But there is no need to panic

yet. We just need to do a little

tinkering. “This week we are going to do a

bit of defensive work on the train ing ground to make sure we’re prepared for Saturday.” One bright spark to come out

of T u esd ay ’s match was the debut of new signing Neil

Reynolds. Burgess added: “lie did okay.

He’ll need time to settle but with the games coming up thick and fast he’ll have to settle quickly. “But he’s definitely going to be

a big bonus for us.” Meanwhile, Clitheroe have

been drawn aga ins t Northern League side Easington Colliery in the next round of the FA Vase on

November 11th. And four days prior, the Blues

will face Darwen in the next round of the Floodlit Trophy. Easington will be a tough

proposition for Clitheroe having reached the final qualifying round of the FA Cup where they will face former league side Chester City on Saturday.

On the in ju ry fro n t, R

Stewart (groin) and Chris 1 tingham (ankle) are likely out for a month after both off injured on Saturday.

and Louise Burrill won both their nail-biting games 15-

formance from the ladies, who won three of four games, the visitors ran out winners. In the Second Division,

the B team earned a narrow 9-7 win over Tag. Roefield dominated the

third and fourth ranked mixed doubles, winning all four to lead 5-3 at half-way. Winning three men’s and

one ladies' doubles game saw the lead maintained. Gordon Pimperton won four out of four games. The team were then

unlucky to then lost 9-7 to title favourites St Phillips at Ilyndburn. The ladies won all their games, while the men lost

all theirs. However, three wins from

four for the bottom half mixed doubles gave Roefield

a better result than they could have expected. In Division Four, the C

team beat Aztec and Inde pendent C, and the D team beat Blackburn Juniors B and Time Out Badminton

in Division Five. At the weekend, Roefield

began their bid for promo tion from the Multicourt League Fourth Division, winning 12-4 against Multi

part B. Ainger, Burrill and Karen

Farnhill were unbeaten.

Alan celebrates a successful season at Whalley GC

captain, Andrew Miller, expressed his plea sure that the season's competitions had been well supported and enjoyed by the

playing members. Veteran golfer Alan Amos certainly had

a memorable season - he won the Vintage Decanter and Brandreth Rose Bowl in suc

filled the Bowl with roses, and the Decanter with vintage port - the latter being enjoyed by the club officials seated at

the top table. Roll of Honour Scratch Medal, Phil Hanson; Frank

O It has not taken new Clitheroe Golf Club lady captain Chris Stokes long to make her

mark at Whalley Road. After seeing the first event of her year of

office fall victim to elements, Chris and Bar bara Thornton returned 75.5 nett and won the Daily Mail foursomes qualifier. Sheila Cornwell compiled 21 Stableford points to win the nine-hole charity competi

tion. O Derek McIntyre amassed 41 Stableford points to win the Miners Lamp at Clitheroe

GC on Saturday. Raymond Taylor (39 points) was runner-

up and he was followed home by Rob Andrew (38 points) and Martin Hill (37 points). The Dennis Greenup-Paul Connolly pair

12.5-71.5). 9 The appropriately named Hangover Stakes was contested at Whalley C.C on Saturday - only hours after the annual dinner and prize

presentation. Eric Hey worth returned 91-20-71 and

emerged victorious ahead of Peter Seavers (81-9-72) and Nick Williamson (84-11-73). 9 Mytton Fold GC members have turned their attentions to the Professional's Winter

Series. The first round of Gary Coope's popular

event - the fourth - took place at the weekend and saw 12-handicapper Colin Elliott compile 38 Stableford points and win by a distance. Tim Chambers (32 points) was runner-up
